I traded my stock 450r for a 1986 250r and a 2001 YFZ 426 bike and $1000.
The R is in great shape came with a ton of extra parts frame is flawless just had 1k worth of reciepts into it from complete engine build to new cables etc. Has FMF pipe and silencer T6 racing cylinder and head (whatever that is?) came with manual as well and a title. Has hole in piston because he tried a aftermarket cdi and it burned up but I have original and a 89 CDI for it. The 01 426 just needs a left radiator. He was going to do a hybrid build with the engine into the R but found it to be more work then he wasnted. That is why the engine is removed. I also got $1000 cash so I have the money to fix these up. Here are a couple pictures.

Did you actually get the motor with the bike?

If you did, that's not too bad of a deal.

I'd say your 250R is worth around $1800,
the bike may be worth $1000 + $1000 seems like about the right price for a used 450R.

If you can put the bike back to rideable condition you can have the best of both worlds.

If you plan to keep and ride the 250R - you may want to replace the shocks. I've had a number of stock 250R's and the shocks are terrible and make it hard to ride. A good set of aftermarket shocks will do wonders.

Good luck with the new ride.

Yes the bike is all complete just need to put the motor back in and a left side radiator. Also I got close to $500 in extra parts alone for the 250r.

Looks to me like you got a good deal. Get that piston fixed and you're off riding again!

I have never owned/rode a 250r ever before. I grew up on dirtbikes a 4 wheelers but have never been on a 250r or lt250 so I am excited.

side note. What color is the original gas tank suppose to be red or white? Also does anyone have one for sale I want to switch it back to stock tank.

It's suppose to be red.

OK thanks, will other years fit or is it 1986 specific?

I beleive they will all fit, but the 86 has different threads for the cap.

Can anyone verify this????????

whatcha gunna do with the desert tank?

Looks like that tank is full of fuel. I would be leary on that fuel since the previous owner may have dumped a bunch of old gas in there. If you didn't put the gas in yourself, I would drain it into a gas can and put it in the weedeater. ;)

PM me if you are interested in swapping tanks, I have a 86 I just picked up and it has a decent tank on it.

Not knowing what your TRX450R looked like, it looks like you came out alright. You could get that YZ running and sell it to pick up another R. Trust me...you are going to get addicted, especially after you go for a spin on it.

Thanks,
Dan

Have not decided yet. I first want to get a nice original stock tank. I was told the tank was bought 1 month ago so the gas can't be to old.

You cannot determine the age of the gas from the age of the tank. I am just looking out for you, take it for what it's worth. It would be best to start with fresh gas once you get that R running.

That's probably the best idea, my lawn mower can run on this gas then. My piston is stamped 3890J I can't cross it anyone know what that may be. I have no idea if the cylinder is a original 86 or newer but I need to know what size/year piston to buy.

X2 on what Dan said.......its not worth chancing for about $7 of gas.

Neither, the stock gas tank for an 86 was blue. Check out the pic.

Mine is just like that but where there is blue it is red. Red seat and red hood.

You sure about this? I thought the 86's were red and the 87's were blue.

Most 86's were blue but some of the later ones were red.
