I was riding my 400 the other day on a pretty hot day, nothing fast just a simple ride and came to a stop and shut it off. I went to start it back up and it acted like the battery was dead, until it would do anything. I waited a while and let it cool down and it started right up. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this?

Id check your battery connections and grounds. Also the connection to the starter. Might not have been anything big check the easy stuff first. The starter might be on its way out too, it might act up when its hot. Even though you werent running the starter hard the motor could heat it up enough not to work if it is on its last leg. Its more likely something little as opposed to a big problem.
