valve question

I pulled the head off my 400 and you could see daylight around the valves. i can push on the valves and it goes away but then i can push on the spring and they dont seal back up. the question is should the valves be like this?

i would say no they are not with the valve springs in the head still. sounds like you should look into new springs and do some valve lapping to get eveything all cleaned up. also put in some new valve seals too so that no oil leaks into the cylinder. i would take it to a good machine shop that works on performance machines and have them go through it all. then while you are at it you could do a nice port and polish and you would really have something. steve

if the valves are hanging out with the valve springs still in it, either have a bent valve, or your guides are full of trash or mis-shapen. you could find someone to ream your valve guides and see if that fixes it. if the guides are full of trash, your valves are probably junk too.
