Battery Voltage at Idle

Ok i been having batterys go bad after riding a few times my idle voltage is 14.40 if i rev it up no change with light on drops to 13.50 this seems ok but just wonding why batterys keep going bad they will not charge back up and you can not jump start but if you disconect the battery cable it will jump start so the battery is shorting out inside anyone having this problem thanks

That is a little higher than what I would expect, but i wouldn't think it would be enough to burn up the battery. If you got a buddy with the same bike, swap the regulator/rectifier out and see if you see something closer to 12.8 or 13.2 when it is idling. If there is no change, check the amp draw on the battery.
