Just get the Ceramic. Stainless would only be better in not letting it rust, but the Ceramic shouldn't rust either if you keep it polished up with Mothers...

Ceramic will look much better but I have heard that the Sparks pipes with the ceramic have been not lasting very long??? Not sure though! the only awesome stuff out there that you can depend on is Jet Hot or HP Coating header coating!! it is like ceramic but made with other materials,,,it is coated inside and out,,,it is guaranteed forever,,,and it looks sweet,,,only cost $45 for just the header!!!

Ceramic if it is HPC. Otherwise - stainless.

I called jet-hot about doing my head pipe and they wanted over $200 to do my power bomb inside and out. I replied back and said i just wanted the outside done and he said $300 + shipping!!That doesn't sound right does it?

Call HPC, they are cheaper than Jet Hot anyway. www.hpcoatings.com They will do the header for $45 and the midpipe for $35

Yeah go with HPC. I emailed back and forth with one of the Tech Guys from there for a while and he was very nice and answered everything I asked, and replied fast. I plan on having my Piston, Valves, and Valve Springs coated when I do Motor Work.

They must of raised their prices! They now want $90 +shipping. I think i will leave mine alone and hit it with some mothers every now and then.

Their taking advantage of you!!! They will do it for $45,,,if they say more just tell them you have a friend who paid $45. $75 is the price for a mid pipe and the header,,,,,oh yeah I didnt get charged the prep fee because they prep it for free if their taking a competitors coating off!! Just throw some spray paint on it and tell them you sent it to some company and they jacked you!!!

I would think stainless would be better. I wish someone smart like Gabe or somebody would reply.

I dont understand what your trying to figure out here?? Why do you need a smart person to reply?? Im dumb and I can still help you!!! Basically a stainless header will last almost forever, it will never rust, but it will look just like your stock header does and change colors,,,ceramic looks awesome(like chrome)but some of the finishes out there dont last long,,,if you get a high temp coating from HPC or Jet-Hot, they look awesome like ceramic and are guaranteed to last!! if your wanting a header to last forever and dont care about a nice or show finish then get stainless,,if you want to stand out and look awesome, but still have a finish that will last, get an HPC or Jet-Hot coating!!

Chad is right. The stainless will last and prevent rusting, but really its not doing anything, and , it will change colors and look just like the stocker. The ceramic coating has an advantage because of its great looks and heat wicking properties. It,s really not that hard of a decision to make.

Rico did you have the inside of your Powerbong coated? Wouldn't that screw up the stuff inside there that was suppose to help with noise and whatever?

so if i have a stainless pipe and get it ceramic coated, will there be any advantage other then looks?? I heard someware that the pipe wont get near as hot and the gases will stay hotter instead wich increases flow. is this right?

nevermind. aparently trinity gets there pipes coated by jet hot anyway. ( i just called them)

01-14-2003, 03:10 PM
go out to hpcoatings or jet0hot's webpage and read all the info out there,,it not only looks good but keeps temps down...

Warriorman I have no idea what they did,,I'm not realy worried about the inside of it and sound levels..the powerbongs don't lower noise as much as advertised but they do add the exrty power that they rave about..:devil

I think you have to specify for them to coat the inside of it,,,and come to think of it Im not even sure if mine was done on the inside, I didnt even really look!! Anyway I just got back from the shop and i have everything on the 505 together except for the cases, which are being powdercoated, I will have those in a day or 2 and it will be ready to run, just put my new needle in the carb, a little adjusting, then its time to,,,,,,,whats that word called,,,oh yeah,,,RIDE!!!!!!
I will have pics up soon, hopefully good ones!!! Man it looks nice!!!

if you want performance over looks, stainless is better than mild steel with ceramic coating because it will scavage the remaining gas particles better and make the motor more effecient.

01-17-2003, 10:48 AM
Here's a clear pic of my powerbong after having it coated by HPcoatings..

But to keep it lookin good without stains and what not..you have to buy some chemicals from HP,,a cleaner and a special polishing cream.. :D

All I have to say is C. Sparks Ceramic coating sucks ***!!!! I'm on my 2nd pipe and this peice of **** is rusted too!! Don't get me wrong I love the performance, but the finish sucks. I'm sending mine to HPC!

The advantage to ceramics is they reflect heat instead of conducting it (like ceramic cookware or the tiles on the bottom of the space shuttle) where metals conduct the heat. Some Winston Cup teams reportedly have the pistons, valves (surfaces exposed to the cumbustion chambers) and anything else they can get away with ceramic coated. That helps lower the cylinder temps, and in an exhaust, the gasses stay hotter which could help flow.

In a car, ceramic coating the headers or exhaust manifolds will lower the under hood temps significantly.
