Oil shocks all the way. Air shocks are inconsistent.

And they get bad body roll in turns.

air all the way. just the ease of adjustability dont have to mess with diffrent springs or valving etc. and u wont have body roll if you know how to properly tune them. a little bit of knowledge goes a long way with air shocks. i have owned oil shocks i had long travel custom axis on my 400ex quad rate long travel elkas on my 450r custom axis long travel again on my yfz and long travel elka piggy backs on my yfz then i bought a set of the fox dsc evols and i will never go back. like i said just proper knowledge and knowing how to adjust any shock will go a lon way in how it performs for u

Yes sir you definatley get what you pay for. i like how i can flatland a 60 foot double not feel it but then they are so plush over the small stuff.

Not to thread jack, but they dont make the evols for the 400ex and wondering if the standard floats work just as good?

I honestly could go either way with a top of the line set of oil shocks, or some Fox air shocks. Both seem very similar in performance to me

probebly not as good as the evols;) i wondering how the standard floats is compared to other shocks in the same price (around 700$)

i run the standard floats on my 300. they are good... for trail riding. i race mx and sometimes they are a pain. you cant adjust the ride height which is sucks. if you need more air in your shocks hor you weight then your ride hieght will be going up. another thing is rebound they dont have any rebound adjustment. but you can buy the fox float r which is the standard with rebound. overall good for trail riding and good shock i manage with them for mx on my 300. i would recomend them over the same price(700) oil shocks

I run the Custom Axis Pro Air and can't find anything about them that I don't like them.

air shocks have oil too. they just use air instead of springs

I love the adjustments on the Pro-Air. Mine were made for my weight and riding style and they are super plush, both in the roughest woods and the Big Motorcross sections. They charge like $75 a shock to rebuild and revalve for a specific rider, I suggest it for your buddy, it will make a HUGE difference for him.

i just dont like the air shocks, i like the feel of a set of oil and spring shocks that are perfectly dialed in.

I couldn't tune my fox's to where i was comfortable with them, I will say this I have never rode anything plusher on the small chop. I simply could not tune out the dive coming into turns without giving up the plushness. Great shocks no doubt just not for me.

I went with coil shocks over air shocks last shocks I bought. Costed more than the floats to. I would rather have 3 springs, cross overs, comp/rebound adj. Plus imo Spring shocks look better than the air shocks.

Im gonna say that people either love the air shocks or hate em.
They are not for everyone but the people that can get them tuned in like them for the reason of quick on the fly adjustments.
It took me a good month of testing them once a week when i could and kept a log of all the adj i did and keep that in my gear bag when im at the track so i have a reference if i need to make a quick adj.
