i ran stock gearing with my 20 inch knobbies and when i went to the dunes with my 22 inch kenda dune runners my R seemed to be a little under powered, most likely because i was still running stock gearing.

I want to be a little slower than stock but with more hp, so what gearing should i run?

i was thinking 13/44?

I've always heard of people just switching for a -1 tooth in the front or +3 in back with 22" tires to account for the extra diameter & drag.

i know what you mean my recent r had the same problem at the dunes i was running 21 10 paddle and couldnt get into 6th gear just bogg and 5th i would have get a open strecth to really have power in it i needed 21 9 paddles so if you drop a tooth in the front you may have a problem with it breakin teeth or chain easyly getting binded in between your sprocket and swingarm dont look like it can fit but it does make sure you run a chain gard on it or go bigger in thee back i find its safer than again this my 2 cents

i got in 6th gear once, and not for very long, i am thinking the 44 would be right for me then, because i dont ususlly go in 6th pinned so i want to gear down a little so i for sure have plenty of power.

i'd suggest a 14/41 or 42 its a great gear. the 310 should pull it well. :cool:

A good running 310 should be able to pull stock gearing with 22 inch tires all day long.

Stock gearing is 13/38, correct? And it's been said that 1 tooth in the front is roughly equivalent to 3 in the rear...so wouldn't 14/41 be about the same as stock?

yea up but not nearly the wear en tear on sprockets and chain. :cool:

Ahh...yea I got ya. Because of the increased amount of contact and teeth engagement, correct? Now maybe I'm having another brain fart here, but stepping up from a 13 to a 14 and 38 to a 41; wouldn't the diameter of each sprocket and the chain engagment angle increase an equal / proportionate amount? You guys have more experience at this than I do...I'm just curious.
