Alright. I got a 2006 Trx450r a little while ago by trading my YZ125 for it.

I have a chance to trade it for a 2008 Trx400ex that has a few parts on it. I feel like the 450 is overkill for where I ride and reverse is a plus about the 400.

I can start racing next year. BUT, I dont think my parents would let me.

My question is do I keep my 450 or get the 400.

Keep the 450 IMO. The 400ex is going to feel like a slug after you have been riding the 450.

you'll hate the 400 after riding that 450

Thats what I was worried about. I ride trails and have a 2 acre field next to my house. And sometimes I'll go to a huge sand pit.

I like the 450 in the sand pits but it just feels to powerful for everything else. And I dont think my parents would let me race.

Could I still race Mx if I got the 400?

yes, but without motorwork or suspension you wont get far.
we could trade straight up if you want :D

eric you know my opinion. the 450 barley gets out of 3rd under the power lines right. and i have a dandy time in your field on my 300 and im only in 3rd the 400ex is just a better choice and youll get used to it and i know youll love it once you do your just like that

Haha Powermadd. Maybe;)

And mike.. I want to race. And get good. I dont feel like a 400 would do it for me.

Thats the thing. I dont need them to help me. I can drive at the start of next season. So I dont need them at all other than to sign release forms cuz Im under 18.

keep the 450. youll get used to the power, just give it time

09-04-2009, 03:26 AM
if you can race...which is costly...especially for a teen...then keep the 450...

if you can't race...refer to my sig...you reason was one of my reasons

Im used to the power. Its just overkill for where I ride. You dont need 40+ Hp. But Im gonna race Open C next year on the 450.

suspension is a must! no power adders til you've got decent suspension under it. trust me lol, besides to be competitive even in the neatv c class you need a decent bike.

no offense, but you trade way to much, you dont keep any of the quads long enough to like them, and come pretty familiar with them..., i would just keep the 450, and keep it for a long time.

The first thing im doing is a arms and an axle.

And Pro Rider. I traded the Yz because I just didnt like the whole dirt bike thing. And the only reason why im gonna get an 05 450r is because of the kick start and better handling.

Im so sick of electric start.

THANK YOU!!!! i tell him this every time he had the yz for 2 weeks max and his first 450 for 8 months and this 450 for 2 months its pointless. Eric, just keep it

i just dont see how a 450 can be "overkill" for anything, lol. i mean its not like youve got a 'busa motor in it or something. i think if you say its overkill, then your not used to it:blah:

x2 keep the 450 I have a 02 400 and want more power, and reverse is nice but you don't need it I only trail ride and it doesn't bother me. Where in MA you located?

Mike shut up!

And the only place I actually use all the power is in the sand pits.

But anyway Im keeping the 450.

AArms and shocks should be first get them as a combo so they are matched up.A good aarm shock combo will run you around $2000 + a must have for mx racing

sounds like someone doesnt like to exercise throttle control to me. thats the problem i have with the bike. its harder for me to control the throttle. even though i an can handle a 250, i have trouble with throttle control, so the 125 is better for me cuz i can run it wfo everywhere.

the quad though, thats easy to control the throttle

unless you've got some pretty deep pockets the best used setup you can afford is what you should be getting, post in the wanted section on neatv there are a lot of guys on there that should have what your lookin for now that its getting towards the end of the season. also the parts for sale section on this site. you don't necessarily NEED a swinger, but a shock (even a revalve) and linkage will be quite helpful.

Ok. I will definately keep an eye out for em. Thanks Extreme.

Another question. Im having a hard time deciding between hipers or DWT Champion in a box. Any input on what one would be more reliable and just a better buy?

champion in a box will perform just as well as the hipers, i'm pretty sure they are lighter also which makes them the better buy for mx. alot of the pros run em so they must work halfway decent;)
