Thats the age range its targeted for. It may not be the best choice to break a new rider in on, but it can work well if the rider can grasp the clutch and such.

those 85's rip. I would be tempted to pick up a very cheap xr 100 until they can get the hang of starting/stoping/turning/clutch/etc. Those 85's are surprisingly peppy.

LOL, worst injury I ever got while riding was on a kids CR80. Broken fibula & tibia, was screwing around on it not wearing boots. "It's an 80, not like its gonna get away from me" IT DID.

11 year old with no riding time??????,..

not saying he cant do it ,IMO its not about the machine its the rider & perhaps the mentor ...2 strokes can be a real handful for some new riders,.... kids who learned on 2 strokes early do good on bikes like that from what I have seen
I would recomend possibly a four stroke maybe as a 1st or just for learning to ride on dirt bike

either way have fun,
BTW I Have a 11 yr old daughter who races a modded KTM85

im 15 and i just got rid of my 03. it definatly rips and it was my first bike. I was 13 when i bought mine though. you can ride them and not go crazy which is what i did but i still went to the track every so often. its a great bike but i still had to have 4 pins in my hand from hitting a tree :D its realy weather you think he'll get good fast or if it will take a while. once you can do the clutch on an 85 you can do it on anything

I am speaking from experience when I say I think it is too much for a first bike. One hit of the powerband can put you on your back real fast. I wish I would have had a different bike to start on, I probably would have never gotten a quad lol and stuck with bikes.

they say 80's are the hardest bikes to ride. cause the horsepower to weight ratio is sickening. the bike makes so much hard hitting power for such a small chassis n wheel base it makes front end come up every gear. makes it a bit hard to learn to ride on. but if you get the concept of clutching, your set.

when my buddy first got his 250f we were 15 i was a big mofo at the time. all ill say is that little 80 would keep my fat arse right with the 145 lb 6 foot goon on the 250f on a flat strech. they all out rip. get a ttr 125 or something
