Im thinking about trading for a YFZ this weekend, and want to know pros and cons of these bikes, the guy has told me it has a quadwerks +6 swingarm, +3 chrome a-arms, custom paint, and triple rate w/rezies, for motor work it has WR crank & cam, falicon rod, cp piston, dyna trac adjustable ignition, 1mil port job, ron woods intake, and woods exhaust, has anyone had any experience with any of those mods? i dont like that it has a +6 swingarm i dont think that it will fit my riding style, which is small jumps and trails, and on tracks. and im not familar with any of the motor mods. please someone help me out before i trade so i know somethings.

thanks. here are some pics.

on the head, +1mil port job? did they put +1 mm valves in it and port it? steel or titanium valves?

oil mod- the right side clutch cover housing is moded or a new one put on. basically adding a wrist pin oiler nozzle, and high volume oil pump. some have had problems with failures without this but i have a 2004 and haven't done the mod and haven't had a problem yet.. knock on wood..

thats a striaght DRAG bike, if u wanna hit some jumps get rid of that swinger and get a stock one...yfztech.com/forum theres all drag guys over there u could prb trade and get some boot on those parts, looks like it has a marvin shaw rear shock and i think those are worth a bit of money

na looks like its a no link swingarm and it being a +6 or w/e im sure u can find someone to trade u a stock rear end for urs on that site,

stock rear shock 04-05
stock swingarm 04-05
stock link and pull rod 04-05

you can mix the link and pull rods or shocks from diff years. the rear shock, link, pull rod has to match years. a 06-08 rear end will work if u have all the matching parts years anything 06-08 stock will match up and anything 04-05 will match up just make sure its all the same years

what axle is on ur bike??

well i know for sure u can trade those drag parts for stocks plus cash. also the bearing carrier will prb be diff in that +6 u have looks smaller but could be wrong. i knw its a round housing and the 04-05 arent round housing.

if u can get a 06+ rear swingarm bearing carrier etc it is better anyways. but if u do make sure u get a 06+shock and linkage and pullrod also.

i bet u put those parts on yfztech someone will want those before u know it.

yeah i put them on there earlier, hopefully i can get them traded or sold.
could you make me a list of what all parts ill need in the back to put it back to stock?
thanks.

stock swingarm 04-05 or 06-08
stock bearing carrier has to be same year range as the swingers
stock shock also has to be same year
linkage has to be same year range
pull rod same year range

u should be ok with the axle u have unless u want to get a stock one any years will fit.

u can cut that chain down to fit stock rear end

u can trade that extended brake line with the swingarm as well but make sure to get stock one in return

keep all ur bolts/nuts/washers/etc.. u may need the bolts for the stock linkage and pull rod as well

ALSO FORGOT TO ASK YOU.. IS THAT A DRAG CUT FRAME?? IF THEY CUT THE FRAME FOR DRAG IM BETTING U THAT THE CUT THE STOCK LINKAGE/PULLROD MOUNTS OFF THE FRAME RAIL. IF SOO ITS NO USE IN GETTING STOCK PARTS

thanks for the list, ill have to ask him if the frame was cut for drag.

kfx400i
08-31-2009, 09:16 PM
he said the frame isnt cut. it would be alot easier if i could go look at it in person and check it out but he lives 4-5hrs away so i have to take the mans word on it. i hate to meet the guy when we trade having him drive 2-3hrs and then have to backout after driving that far.

its cake but if uve never done it before u will prb get aggravated a few times at it but u can do it

put the quad on some kinda stand
take ur caliper off
take the axle out
take shock off
take the pivot bolt outta the swingarm and boom its off

I would say since you're new to the YFZ's and it seems quads in general too that you should probably just stay away from this one. I would try to look for a YFZ closer to stock, your style, and closer so you can check it out in person - which is very important.

im only new to yfz's ive been around quads forever, 2 of which were a kfx400 and a z400. only thing i really have to change on this quad is the swingarm which i can either buy a new one or trade for one plus cash, and this is only best offer ive had to trade my current bike for. im suppose to be meeting the guy saturday and im going to look the bike over and ride it where we meet and if i dont like it i guess ill just turn around after driving a couple hours.

Sorry I assumed by the questions you were asking that you were relatively new to quads.

I still would avoid the quad, you even expressed concern about being in over your head. You'll for sure need to swap out the rear end and fix the toe-in for the front. Seems they are both toe-out a bit, not a big deal. Find out what the shocks up front are valved for as that will make a big difference too. You might need to get them revalved to perform properly.

From the looks to me, if you have experience with quads, then you most likely know your limits anyway. I wouldn't let anyone else tell you different.

As for the quad, since also you're experienced, you probably know what to look for when you're riding. All I have to say is good luck, and just about all of your questions can be answered here.

Welcome.
