I'm trying to fix my neighbors 4-zinger for his kid's birthday. It sat for about 4 years and the fuel system was really nasty. I cleaned out everything thoroughly. Cleaned and re-gapped the plug. Even put in a new Yamaha needle valve. It just keeps flooding. It's almost as if the jet is too big. If I shut off the fuel it will rev up great for a few seconds then die. Otherwise it just keeps bogging and loading up. What could be causing this??

Sounds to me like you have a damaged or way out of adjustment float. Take it out and see if it floats in water. That and make sure the adjustment tab isn't bent or anything.

I thought about the float. I guess I'll put it in some gas and see if it's floating. It's a molded plastic piece. The needle slips right onto it. There is no adjustment.

Got it going!! There was still some trash in the air screw circuit. It idled great and would richen or lean by turning the screw. BUT it was still partially clogged causing part to full throttle flooding!
