Well, here lately I've been really getting into hip hop and rap. I like Weezy, Birdman, Gucci, Jeezy, etc..

But I am really more into the beat and lyrical content of the songs from the 90's and early 2000's..

Can anyone here point me towards some good hip hop/rap artists from this time period?

PS- PLEASE do not reply to this thread if you dont have something relvant to my request. Saying "hip hop/rap is garbage/chit/etc" does not qualify as relevant..:chinese:

when I was into it and I still will listen to some of it. Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, snoop dog, Naughty by nature and another, I can't think of the name.

This should keep you busy.....Boogie down productions,Brand nubian,Big daddy kane,Public enemy,NWA,Dre.dre,Easy E,Smif n wessun,EPMD,Nice and smooth,Gangstarr,Souls of mischief,Ed-OG and the Bulldogs,Pete rock and cl smooth,Ultramagnetic mc's,Del tha funky Homosapien,D-Nice,Jeru the damaja,Ice cube,O.G.C.,Heltah Skeltah,Wu-tang,I can go on for days but do some research on those for now and youll be good.

He's got most of them covered. Bone Thugs old stuff, Ice Cube old stuff, Three 6 Mafia's underground stuff (believe it or not), of course 2 Pac, and Lil Troy. If you're into lyrics you'll also like Tech N9ne, Army of the Pharaohs, Eminem, Gangstaar, just to name a few.

A tribe Called Quest or The Roots. If you're looking for gangsta (c)rap look somewhere else. These are the only hip hop/ rap groups I like to listen to.

i like a lot of that old stuff too. rap nowadays is just ridiculous and degrading. i like how in one of Eminem's new songs, i forget which, he talks about how he just sat back doin his thing and lettin rap go to crap. IMO its true. and this is coming from a 16 year old. Lil Wayne and T-Pain is just WAYY overrated.

since you guys are into old school hip hop, check out Big L. died right before he got big. shot as usual. he's a mixture between nas, jay z, biggie, and pac. alot of new school rapper like 50 and eminem and them guys throw a shout out to him every now and then. check him out. wont be disappointed.

if i'm not playin with a motor i'm listening to music. actually thats kinda wrong, i'm ALWAYS listening to music haha the stereo in my living room is on 24/7. also check out pandora.com for music. they have you choose an artist or song to start with and then play songs that are along the same lines and/or by the same artist. site does a helluva job if i'm on the computer its playin.

Alright I always get pissed when someone brings up an old thread but I felt this was worth it. I thought Kid Cudi was just decent, but then I heard this song. It made me go out and buy the CD. Yes I know it's not old school but he's about one of the few guys that is actually hip hop and not a rapper claiming to be making "hip hop".

Basically anything from NWA or their members solo stuff.

Seems rap from the 80s and early to mid 90s actually had meaning behind it. Rapping about the streets and such ... not always about killing someone or raping women .... kind of the reason why I like SOME of Eminem's stuff... like his rap Beautiful. Has a purpose to the song , a story behind it.

By the way ... check out some 2 Live Crew .... there's a video of them on YouTube about a performance they did with a bunch of elderly in the crowd .

They are nothing like what I mentioned in my above post ... these guys were all about macking women !!!! But their stuff is funny.

lupe is in my top 3 at the moment. i cant wait for lasers. Alot of his tracks have deeper meanings that often go overlooked.

3rd verse from hip hop saved my life is real good.
