So its stock length stock stroke? I would clean it up right away with wd40 and emry cloth so it doesnt rust anymore. It might be worth a bunch.

bearing races look good, but i would put a new lower rod bearing in it if i was going to use it by looking at the rust on the webs

That's the same reed cage I have. Where can I get replacement reeds for it?

No, you don't get iron oxide/rust on aluminum. I would be leery of running any high stress part that had rust on it.

Those are definitely vforce 2's. I loved mine but stopped using them after my friend sucked one of the little screws that hold the reeds on through his LRD 350. I upgraded to the vforce 3's because the reeds snap into place, they were redesigned for the purpose of eliminating the screws. Or so vforce told me.

Just because something says "billet" doesn't mean it's aluminum. The term "billet" could be used with any material or part that is not cast or forged into rough shape before machining. I've been in a plant that mills, turns, and grinds crankshafts from billets (or solid bars) of 4140/4340,etc steel for anything from the Z06 Vette and smaller to large diesel engines, pumps, generators...when these bars (or billets) come in off the trucks, they are damn near big enough in diameter to cover nearly all my height.

The biggest crankshaft I've seen yet being machined was for a large ship (that's all they would tell). It started out as a HUMONGOUS rough rectangular hunk of hammered steel straight from the mill and then was put on an even bigger horizontal CNC mill to rough all the journals. This thing was so damn big I can't even describe it. It was honestly like a shower of blue-hot chips watching a 6inch milling cutter fly thru that piece at 250+ inches/minute.

Some of the techniques used to machine crankshafts are very interesting to watch!

I guess that was kind of off topic....

Cool thanks for that. Billet is an overused term... everything is better if it's "billet" it seems like.
