If I were to clean up front springs and just shoot them with spray paint, does anybody know if it would hold up for at least a little while? Or would it just peel off?

Do you have access to a body shop? If so, urethane paint is the best way to go. Paint from the can will last a little while, but it just can't take the abuse that urethane can. If you want, if you pay for the shipping I can shoot them for ya!;) I won't charge for the painting. Just be sure the springs are off the shock itself.
