I AM ABOUT TO PURCHASE A 450R CARB, I AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING THE 06-08 CARB TO HAVE THE FCR. PLUS I HEAR THAT THERE ARE ALOT MORE ACCESSORIES FOR IT(ACCELERATOR PUMP, NEEDLES) LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS TRIED THIS ON A 450R CARB, I CONVERTED MY 400 CARB RECENTLY WITH NO BIG ISSUES. I HAVE SOME POPPING ON DECEL BUT NOTHING MAJOR. AM ABOUT TO GO TO A 426 13:1 SETUP AND RUN E85 STRAIGHT. SOME PEOPLE/SHOPS SAID I WILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELARATOR PUMP STICKING. I KNOW THERE IS A 450R CARB THREAD BUT NOTHING ABOUT E85 WITH IT. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS.

WITHOUT MONEY BEING THE ISSUE, WHICH YEAR CARBURETOR WOULD BE THE BEST TO CONVERT TO.

The 04/05 carb is what most people use. If you want a FCR, buy a 39mm or 41mm FCR designed for the 400ex and you can have it set up for alcohol.

I'm running an 05R carb and all I did was jet it up significantly--see sig for jetting. I don't run straight E85 because I can't get a needle aggressive enough to ensure the mid-range won't be lean.

WHAT COMPRESSION ARE YOU RUNNING? I WAS THINKING ABOUT DOING A 426 13:1. DO YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD BE OK WITH THAT. i HAVE THE 400 CARB SET-UP GOOD ON MY RIDE WITH ETHANOL, JUST A LITTLE DECEL POP. I AM BUYING A 450R CARB TODAY, THE 05 MODEL, AND WILL START THE SETUP ON THAT. I WANT TO GET IT AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE BEFORE I SWITCH TO THE 426 BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO RUN IT TO LEAN. I FIGURE I WILL JUST NEED TO JET UP ABOUT 15-20 JET OR SO TO START, AND MAYBE BUMP THE PILOT UP A COUPLE OF SIZES. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. WHICH NEEDLE ARE YOU USING? I CANT FIND A HRC NEEDLE. IS THAT WHAT I NEED

QUIT USING CAPS, IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO READ.

I am running about 11.3:1 compression and the HRC needle.

If you intend to run straight E85, bump the jets up about 25-30% over your gasoline setup.

Sorry, I just leave caps on at work. So do you think I will be ok with the 13:1 setup. I had seen in another post that you said it should be ok. I just want to verify before I switch. thank you for your help

If you have it setup right for straight E85, then 13:1 should be fine. HD studs will be a must at that compression ratio, additional cooling would be a good idea as well.

I dont think there is enough people out there that have done high compression on ethanol to Make me take a chance. I would like to do a 426 13:1, but I think I will do a 416 12:1. I might lose a little power, but I will sacrifice that without having to worry about race gas. Plus I am going to try to use the sparks +6 key on this setup, should help burning that e85. thanks for your help WHEELIE, I will keep you and everyone else updated about the compression with e85

I'll save you some time and money on the Sparks key, don't waste your time. 6 degrees will be too much for 12:1 compression. I tried a Sparks key and it would ping in the mid-range once the engine got warmed up--this was with 11.3:1 compression and about 101 octane. Now I'm running a 4 degree key that I cut myself and don't have any more pinging issues.
