Any tips on a complete break in? Have a new hotcam and new piston, rings ect. Can I just follow the hotcam break in instructions? or will it hurt the rings.. And the oil, how long after break in should I change the oil? thanks

1 idle till its hot then let it cool completely (keep a good size fan in front of the quad when idle)

2 repeat step one

3 then ride it only in first and or second keep the throttle moving try not to hold it at one steady position do this for about 15 min

4 try third or fourth same thing keep the rpm moving. --------change oil now or wait till the two hour mark.---------

5 rip it!!!

or you can completely skip 1-4 and just go with #5 a real mechanic (not saying your mechanics suck ) does #5 right off the bat.

this is what i used for mine and it runs as good today as it did after i finished breaking it in almost 2 years ago. use regular motor oil that is not synethetic or semi synthetic. 10w30 or something is fine. i use mobil one in mine all the time that is 10w30. i change it once a month about in the summer and it is good to go. just my .02 though, steve

i have done and help in a bunch of 400 to 440 big bore, blasters, 250r. what ever shows up at the shop. and every time were done and give the quads back to the owner and they ask how to break it in we tell each person to go from here to there and don't let off the gas. if your confident in your building skills or you just came off the dealer showroom with a new quad or bike rip it.
