Hey Pap do you have any pictures of a gray powdercoat? Darker then like my silver frame was a year ago? I want like an actual gray with some shine.

Pappy
08-22-2009, 06:22 PM
Not off hand.

like a real battleship type grey?

i can add clear to just about anything for shine.....just need to narrow down the base color

Dave400ex
08-22-2009, 09:57 PM
Something like the stock YFZ frame color. Darker then the Honda.

Pappy
08-22-2009, 11:04 PM
im sure i can come up with something

Dave400ex
08-26-2009, 03:31 PM
I wasn't afraid of that! lol. You coming to Ironman this year?

Pappy
08-26-2009, 04:01 PM
I dont believe so. Harlen usually flys to that one, and there aint no sense in both of us being there:p

Dave400ex
10-25-2009, 09:56 AM
Here is the black I was talking about. He calls it textured or wrinkle black but it looks different then the Ars-fx type wrinkle.

What you think? Something like this or the matte like you said with a no shine gloss.

Dave400ex
10-25-2009, 09:57 AM
:D

Pappy
10-25-2009, 09:58 AM
Your call....

I will be ordering powder this week so I will get some no gloss clear and we will do a test part to see how it looks for ya

Dave400ex
10-25-2009, 10:11 AM
Sounds good to me. I'm really not sure. I'd say that color looks pretty much like the stealth black. I like it, but durability is still the question with it compared to the other with no gloss clear.

Pappy
10-25-2009, 10:16 AM
The stealth seems to hold up really well. I dont think it fades as quick as the other textures on the market. I think you would like the matt with no gloss due to it being easier to clean

Dave400ex
10-25-2009, 02:35 PM
Hmm well that sounds good. I'm curious to see what the matte looks like because I just can't picture it.

Dave400ex
11-18-2009, 08:24 PM
You should have most of my stuff the week after Thanksgiving. I'm thinking the Red, Stealth Black, and Molycoat.

I noticed taking it apart that some of the stuff doesn't look bad, but it's almost like it has to all be done to be new again for the show you know? Some of it seems like a waste and extra work/cost, but it will look awesome!

I've been thinking this would look good:

Red Frame, Subframe, and Upper A-Arms
Stealth Lower A-Arms, Stem, Swingarm, Bumper, Nerfs, Grab Bar, Motor Mounts, Head Cover, etc.
Then of course the Moly stuff!

What do you think? It will have the Black Carbon Fiber Maier plastic.

Pappy
11-18-2009, 09:01 PM
Hey after a year of GNCC racing and most of it could still pass for the show...I take that as a compliment;)

Knowing you, I really dont think you will like any of the texture colors. They come clean, but not to your standards IMO. If the fenders will be or have a high sheen, then stick with a gloss scheme IMO ofcourse

Dave400ex
11-19-2009, 12:37 PM
Hmm. The only thing I didn't like about the Gloss Black was how it showed all the scratches. The wrinkle black is just to thick/to much texture. I was thinking the Stealth might be a happy medium.
How would the Matte look with the no gloss clear? Honestly I really want a black that looks like the Molycoat, I love that look!

As for cleaning, I do think the gloss was easier than the wrinkle I had last year, but I didn't notice a major difference. With as much time as I spend cleaning the thing I don't think it would matter! :eek2: Haha

Whatever holds up the best!

Pappy
11-19-2009, 12:54 PM
I could add a clear to the gloss for some extra protection, all gloss colors pc or paint show swirl marks and scratches. You could always hit it with some cleaner and sealer wax:devil:

wax on wax off:blah:

Dave400ex
11-19-2009, 01:14 PM
Well if you insist on the gloss then I guess I better go with that. :D

Pappy
11-19-2009, 01:15 PM
You know, one year we are gonna have to do a rattle can special just to freek everyone at Indy out:blah:

I don't know about that one. One thing for sure, they would be Freaked out!

The frame shipped today. You should see it Thursday.

Can you do me a favor when you get it and measure the dimensions of the box? The UPS guy measued it wrong and it cost me an extra $55. Not happy.

Also I'm still struggling with the Gloss Black again. lol. I really was looking for something more along the lines of the Molycoat color. I can't really tell the texture of Stealth much by the pictures but it doesn't look anything like the wrinkle I had in 08. Hmm. Would Stealth really be much harder to clean then Gloss Black?

Pappy
12-01-2009, 05:50 PM
Ok on the box

IMO it is harder to keep clean.....but like I said, I know how clean you like stuff and dont think you will be happy with a texture

Dave400ex
12-01-2009, 06:10 PM
Your killing me! I love the way this oil tank looks!

Nailing the color scheme is always the most difficult part for me. :blah:

Is there any difference price wise?

Pappy
12-01-2009, 06:36 PM
Nope, not for you anyway as this is a Indy build:p

The worse that could happen is you not like the way it cleans up, which by then the show will be over so it wont be a critical deal.

Dave400ex
12-01-2009, 06:49 PM
Well my thinking as far as the cleaning goes is the fact that I had that wrinkle black in 08 which looks to have more texture then the stealth and I never had any problems with getting it clean. However when you spend 5 hours cleaning it for the second time you tend to not have any dirt left to spray! :eek2:

Would I be right in thinking that the Stealth would fall inbetween the wrinkle and gloss black? I just can't tell by some of the pictures how much texture it really has. Some look like hardly any, where others look like these a-arms.

I always struggle with the powder colors it seems. HAHA

Pappy
12-01-2009, 07:10 PM
It will have less texture then normal powders usually used (Like arsfx uses) but i havent seen the Tex. Tech stuff so I can say how it will match up, should be very close if not the same.

Ive used this on so many parts ive lost track, most folks have zero issues with it. My brothers engine has been done for over 2 years now and still looks like new, same with his rims etc but he rides mx and is about as fanatical when cleaning as you are

:p

Dave400ex
12-01-2009, 08:40 PM
Do you have a part you could send me coated with Stealth, then I can send it back when I ship all my other stuff to you?

Pappy
12-01-2009, 08:51 PM
YeahI can do a throw away piece for ya and send it out...

MAaudioX10
12-01-2009, 09:53 PM
Try IMS black. Has a real light texture to it.

Dave400ex
12-03-2009, 07:55 PM
Did the "box" show up today? :D

By the way I think we can just stick with the Gloss Black. I think I'm worrying to much about it. I was mainly worried about the bumper and nerf bars being Gloss and not looking good, but I don't know that any other black would make a difference.

Pappy
12-03-2009, 07:58 PM
Elephant crate has arrived.

It was after dark when I came out of the woods so I will run a tape on it tomorrow for ya

Dave400ex
12-03-2009, 08:07 PM
LOL elephant crate. After last year I don't trust those morons. Heck I noticed there were foot prints on the box when I got it out this year. They just don't care...

Pappy
12-03-2009, 08:27 PM
Nope, they sure dont

Dave400ex
12-05-2009, 05:19 PM
Did you get all the screws out? :eek2: :D

Pappy
12-05-2009, 05:25 PM
Yeah Cody got the frame out today and the wife will drop the parts off at stripping monday or tuesday. Im leavin for bear camp here in afew hours so things will keep moving and when i come back i should be able to have powder and parts ready to do some coatin

Dave400ex
12-05-2009, 05:28 PM
Great! I still need to go through the rest of the parts and figure it out, but it seems like I will have parts going every which direction shipping out. Most everything will be the same as last year. Most even the same color, just fresh power. Some stuff still looks good and it seems crazy, but I don't want to risk it for the show.

Dave400ex
12-09-2009, 06:39 PM
By the way, both the Frame and Subframe I want done Red, same Red as last year, with all the clear and what not to make her look wet! :D

Pappy
12-09-2009, 06:42 PM
Wet...can do;)

I know the stripper is usually off for a couple weeks, but hopefully we can get the stuff knocked out real quick in the first week of Jan. if he is this year as well. I've just had to much school crap to go through everything and get it sent so now I will be looking at mid Jan. getting it put together. :(

Pappy
12-13-2009, 02:48 PM

I got most of the stuff in the above list shipped out to you today. It will be there Wednesday. It if all works out it shouldn't be a big deal getting the stuff done. After last year though, who knows... :eek2:

Pappy
12-28-2009, 09:34 PM
Haha, what are you waiting on to come in yet?

Dave400ex
12-29-2009, 02:16 PM
Parts wise, almost everything! lol.

Pappy
12-29-2009, 04:11 PM
LOL...not again:p

Dave400ex
12-29-2009, 08:17 PM
I think it is even worse this year. I'll be looking at mid Jan. getting stuff from you and my engine back. So I won't have a lot of time to get it together. However parts wise it is almost identical to last year, so I know how everything fits!

Pappy
12-29-2009, 08:45 PM
Well you know I will roll through it fast as I can for ya.....

Pappy
12-31-2009, 08:09 AM
Dave, got the box in.....Cody and Ryan were upset, they thought someone sent back parts we had just pc'd LMAO!

Dave400ex
12-31-2009, 02:10 PM
I told you some of it almost seems crazy to have done again, but I would think you about have to, to match everything, etc.

Also everything is apart except for the front hubs have the bearings in them. Seals are out though.

Pappy
12-31-2009, 04:59 PM
LOL....Cody said he was wiping everything down and sending it back LMFAO!

Ryan is still confused as hell haha

Me...i just do the damn work:blah:

Dave400ex
01-02-2010, 06:31 PM
If you thought the parts looked like stuff you had just coated, send them back! lol

What do you think the chances will be of me being able to have everything back Friday the 15th, meaning you would have to ship Wednesday the 13th? I know you could do it, but not sure how long the stripper will be a hold up.

Pappy
01-02-2010, 07:03 PM
There are only a few items that have to go to teh strippers, and they will head there monday and I will tell them I would like them done by thursday.

The rest of the parts will be prepped and ready, the moly parts will be completed so I dont see any issues. Your frame is readyf or me to coat, just been getting jobs ahead of you out of the way but it should be done and ready to ship mid week

Dave400ex
01-07-2010, 04:18 PM
Well did the strippers come through?

It would be great to get some stuff back next week, but you never know what might happen.

Pappy
01-07-2010, 04:39 PM
The parts that needed burn off should be ready for me on monday. The remainder of the parts are being stripped here....and the products needed to finish your work are ordered.

It will all come together...stop stressin:devil:

Pappy
01-07-2010, 04:55 PM
BTW...I have another R due in here next week thats headed for the show...you gonna have some competition:blah:

Dave400ex
01-07-2010, 05:08 PM
lol. I could go real crazy, but it still ends up being one of, if not the cleanest looking at the race track. That is most important to me.

I do have a few more things I need to send you, but it is all moly, so just a quick blast and moly and it done.

Pappy
01-07-2010, 05:42 PM
Well get on with it...dont YOU be the hold up:D

Dave400ex
01-07-2010, 05:53 PM
I know it!

My a-arms and stem should be showing up from Ed Teixeira as well. If they didn't show up today, I would think they would show up tomorrow. The stem I will have you send straight to me, but the a-arms have to be coated, then shipped back to Ed for final assembly, etc.

Also if possible, taping the swingarm off like you did last year helped a bunch. I also noted I wanted the brake stay done in molycoat, which I think will help a bit more as well since the moly doesn't add thickness.

I have to send you yet:
Front and Rear Sprockets
Oil Filter cover and little engine hose holder bracket
3 bar clamp pieces

That should be it! It is hard sometimes not to get confused having parts getting shipped every which a way! :D

Pappy

Let me know when the stuff from Ed shows up, I really don't know when it will. :D

The parts from Ed are now done, I assume the stem comes to you but you werent sure where to have me ship the arms. If they dont go to you I need an addy

01-20-2010, 07:44 PM
Hey Pappy,
I'm pretty sure Dave want them to come to me. If so, the addy is below. Thanks for all the work you've done. Sure would be great if you were my local powder coater.

Thanks Ed! I do want them to go to Ed Pappy. I'll send you a PM with my number, but I want to check to see how much 2 day or 3 day would cost me to get them to him.

When did all the moly/little parts ship, or have they?

Also I sent the last 5 pieces I had for you today, all molycoat, and your MO is in there.

Pappy
01-20-2010, 08:16 PM
The moly parts and small pc parts left monday I believe, if not tuesday so you should have them anyday.

No worries on the parts to Ed, they will leave tomorrow so 2 or 3 day will NOT help you due to the weekend....it would be a waste of $$$

Ed...I dig the Gusset kits....

Dave400ex
01-20-2010, 08:21 PM
Ok all the little parts should show up tomorrow then.

Makes good sense Pap! Again just the a-arms are going back to him, send me the stem! With any luck I could have those next week from him and be rolling along. Still waiting on alot of parts to show up... not good.

Pappy
01-20-2010, 08:23 PM
As long as I aint the hold up the hell with ya:blah:

It will all work out, always does. A roll of duck tape, some super glue and a sharpie.....all you need to get through anything:D

Id like to get a few kits here just to show folks, most have never heard of you guys. I think the stem is a nice solid piece as well. The arms look good, but we have never run them but I hear good things.

Dave400ex
01-22-2010, 05:26 PM
Hey Pap you should have got the other box today. On the kicker pivot piece, I want it taped of like I had it in the box when you blast it/moly it. Don't even touch the part there where it pivots.

Also can you get me a tracking number for the arms to Ed? I want to let him know when they should show up.
