i just got my new stock swinger last night ill be sending that and the arms. since the arms dont need any bearing removal and the swinger is clean and uncoated give me a shipped price.

also 1 bottom a arm has been rubbing something on the bike before i got the arms and made the balljoint housing thin at the bottom is there anyway u can just weld it and grind it smooth so it wont be soo thin? ill post u a pic

65 for arms and 55 for swinger? how well would candy blue hold up on swinger and arms?

Pappy
12-03-2009, 07:23 PM
They do pretty good. The arms take the beating from roost if you aint first:devil:

mxpimp2000
12-03-2009, 07:27 PM
i want something that will hold up well and still look good, i have a bumper thats pc black and after 1 season its really dull and lost its shine. i dont want texture black because that stuff is hard to clean.

i either want candy blue or some heavy duty black or something that will look good with white frame what do you think?

Pappy
12-03-2009, 07:55 PM
I always go with a gloss black with clear for durability.

mxpimp2000
12-03-2009, 07:59 PM
i guess thats what ill do and u do tape up the bearing housings and the housing in the swinger for the bearing carrier?

Pappy
12-03-2009, 07:59 PM
Nope, I let you dig, sand and cuss it out:eek: :D

Everything that needs to be taped or plugged will be;)

mxpimp2000
12-03-2009, 08:03 PM
thats what would happen if i had to id cuss it and give up on it, lol im gonna ship usps and forget stupid fed-ex :D

mxpimp2000

GOOD NEWS! they called me back to work tuesday so i got my job back!:D

any hope on getting anything done before new years?

Pappy
12-17-2009, 07:07 PM
Hey that is good news!

Yeah I dont see any issues. They should be done monday and I can do them immediatley.

I did get the other pm, but please post your final colors so I can do them the minute I walk back in the shop with them. The work load has gone off the chain for the week between Christmas and New Years so your arms and a few complete quads will get rolled out before the holidays to make room for the others that will be stripped next week. I aint complainin'...glad to have the work rolling in for winter!

i want the blue vein with clear but does the clear coat make it look diff? i noticed on your red vein with clear it looked more red than vein. Durability is the key but i gotta have the candy blue and i figured the vein with clear would hold up a little better than just plain candy blue

Pappy
12-17-2009, 07:24 PM
The candy blue top coat is a tinted clear, all translucents are tinted clears.

The issue you have with running a candy over a vein color is you have to balance the amount of powder you apply (top coat) to fully cover the part and not get it too thick as to cause durability issues. Its a catch22 with a vein because of its textured construction, you have to apply enough of the top coat to help fill the vien and get a smooth finish.

The difference you see in pictures is more related to changes in lighting then changes in color, however on some parts you have to apply the powder a tad thicker to get even coverage so there can be times when you may see a color shift between different jobs but usually within a batch of work I can make them all look the same.

Personally, I like doing the bluevein or redvein on parts that have alot of reflective surface. Doing arms and even a frame ...it just doesnt seem to show the effect nearly as much.

if you think candy blue would be more durable and easier to shoot then have away with it. either way im happy, both colors have candy blue in it. suprise me with it. when u get them done just post a pic or 2 that'll make it more exciting lol

Pappy
12-17-2009, 07:32 PM
Its your call 100%, given the two choices I would say run a candy blue and see how they do. The worse that can happen is you bang the snot out of them and they get redone during a break in the race season:p

CBT and Candy blue are the same

I can if needed:p

mxpimp2000
12-22-2009, 07:30 PM
well ive been seeing alot of different builds and different setups and i believe i would like the lowers white instead of them all 4 being CB, i think it would give it a better flow with the frame being white. just spray them thick as snot and clear everything lol:p

Pappy
12-22-2009, 07:40 PM
will do:p

mxpimp2000
12-27-2009, 10:55 PM
the strippers ever get on the ball?

Pappy
12-27-2009, 11:01 PM
Yep, got them back thursday evening.

Got the new arm color ....but want to verify the swinger color before it gets shot just to make sure

mxpimp2000
12-27-2009, 11:03 PM
candy blue swinger
candy blue top arms
white gloss bottoms

do you think they will get here before the weekend

Pappy
12-27-2009, 11:04 PM
roger that....

I have been shooting black all weekend and will be doing candy blue either monday evening or tuesday(as soon as im done all the black) so we are looking good.

mxpimp2000
12-27-2009, 11:06 PM
if theres anyway you could get them to me before the weekend id settle for black

Pappy
12-27-2009, 11:08 PM
LOL...its completely up to you. I just cant stop black to do the white but in any event ...and in any color, you should see them by this weekend, just let me know because once I get rolling tomorrow I will be knocking out everything here thats prepped

mxpimp2000
12-27-2009, 11:12 PM
i didnt know if fed ex would be running due to new years eve and new years day.

if theres no delay with the CB and white then just let it roll with those colors i was just thinkin it would be faster and easier for you, but you being a pro keeps things in schedule:D

Pappy
12-27-2009, 11:15 PM
Its all good...I have an engine cover that has to go CB as well so regardless I will be shooting that color, and the white can be done immediatley after wards.

Fed Ex ...I will check their schedule if not I will use USPS but they should ship tuesday and should only be a 1 day ship to you so I dont see any issues with them arriving thursday, possibly even wednesday.

mxpimp2000
12-27-2009, 11:17 PM
i checked fed ex and they will run everyday except friday the 1st. and sat. 2nd

im off work from wed-sun and will be pretty boring so thought id knock out alot of the build

thanks

Pappy
12-28-2009, 08:40 PM
Everything will ship on wednesday...would ship tomorrow but I ran into an issue and have to redo the uppers which will be done tomorrow

mxpimp2000
12-28-2009, 08:56 PM
so you think wednesday and thursday will give them time to deliever it to ky?

what happen on the uppers?

Pappy
12-28-2009, 09:01 PM
I havent fully figured out what happened. I ended up with an oven full of parts with fish eyes so I am thinking a filter came apart or my line drier quit. it wasnt the entire batch but half of it that I have to redo....which sucks:p

I will probably ship these via USPS so they will arrive friday or saturday due to fed ex not having saturday delivery

mxpimp2000
12-28-2009, 09:05 PM
dang that does suck. usps will be open saturday but not on friday.

priority is 2-3 days i say if u shipped them late tomorrow (2-3pm) or early wednesday they might make it before saturday.

Pappy
12-28-2009, 09:06 PM
I will do my best, I cant make them work a holiday:p

12-28-2009, 09:10 PM
No worries, I could have sent these out and you probably never would have noticed but I strive to do the best I can do and cant let parts roll out that i wouldnt run on my own quad:p

Cody said he would strip them tonight or first thing in the morning (as soon as I finish going through the air system) so if all goes well I might have them redone and out of here tomorrow

mxpimp2000
12-28-2009, 09:15 PM
thats awesome! i prb bug the crap outta ya over them but id rather have the best do them and not a hack job that wouldnt hold up to races

mxpimp2000
12-31-2009, 11:17 AM
got them today. looks good and thanks

i got a bad problem with one of my uppers. i was puttin the bearings and heims in the right upper and everything was going good until one of the heims just stopped. it wont screw in or out. ive clamped on the heim with vicegrips and tried so hard i jammed my wrist up. idk if i gotta buy a new arm now or what i hope not and i didnt cross thread it because it went 1/2 way then just quit

mxpimp2000
12-31-2009, 12:06 PM
finally got it back out and the threads are shot. now wat to do??

Pappy
12-31-2009, 01:08 PM
You can chase the threads if you buy the right tool.

Worse case, send the arm back to the manufacture and they can re-thread it and if needed I will re-pc it for free for ya.

i appreciate it man..would a helicoil or whatever it is work? ill try to get u a pic of it because its pretty smooth i dont see any threads.

wierd thang is the heim joint end threads were fine until u get to the very tip of it idk how that happen either

Pappy
12-31-2009, 01:40 PM
Hard to say....thats one reason why I dont like diassembling or reassembling parts for people...you dont know what will be fine or when you run into an issue.

My friend Greg sent me a houser stem, said the nut was on their by hand....it took a pipe wrench to get it loose and when it broke it literally snapped off the end of the stem.

A geuss is that the threads on the heim were boogered up and maybe caused the issue but its a geuss. I assume a heli coil would work BUT IMO it would be better to have the company either replace the entire end if they couldnt run a tap in there to make sure no metal burs are in the threads. If you used a helo coil, you would have to drill out that arm and that will be a rough job seeing its chromoly

A local machine shop should be able to handle it as well....

mxpimp2000
12-31-2009, 05:37 PM
so its not steel? its chromoly?

Pappy
12-31-2009, 05:50 PM
Your arms are chromoly....the heims are what ever they are made form but its alot softer then the arm. Usually the threads are fine in the arm , its the heim that get s a nick or burr.

mxpimp2000
12-31-2009, 05:56 PM
well the heim went in the arm with little force at all then came to a stop and wouldnt move in or out. i had to use a pair of vice grips and a cheater bar to get it out.

once it came out the threads on the heim where good until the very tip about 3-4 threads but the rest of the heim was fine. the arm was trashed and no threads remain.

i hate calling k and k because they are the only ppl u can buy gibson or the gibson hardware from. they are never to polite or helpful when i call them. but i hope something will be done.

Pappy
12-31-2009, 06:02 PM
Just a geuss, but it sounds like your heim was either damaged or you dinged it re-installing it. Maybe a small piece gave way and thats what locked it up.

See if you can reach Shawn at K&K and tell him I sent you, ask him if he can rethread that arm or cut you a deal on another. If he cant repair it or repairs it but the arm needs re-pc'd, just have him ship it direct to me.

The threads may be good in the arm but filled with metal from the heim (agian, just geussing)
