Its not bad if you have a manual. My stock crank was blue in places, but my motor wasnt toasted.

Its normal for the crank to have blue on sections of the rod. If there is any up and down play in the rod, the crank needs to be redone.

there will be side to side play, but there shouldnt be up and down play. In my opinion it would be better to rebuild.

yeah right on my bad. It needs a little side to side play, minimal though, just so the rod doesnt bind on the crank. No up down play. I also would rebuild it. If you get a used motor you dont know what you will be getting either and could rebuild yours for less then a used one is worth. Then atleast you will have a solid motor.

Just about pissed my pants... my new crank rod set up had side to side play I noticed. Just a little bit but was hoping that was normal. Really did not want to tear that apart again!

yeah sorry it needs a little clearance side to side but no play up down, also the side to side should be straight the rod should not "pivot or wobble" on the crank. That would be abnormal wear. your new crank probably has about a 1/16'' of play thats normal side to side. If you want to know for sure ask the shop you use, you dont want to do a rebuild then have to rebuild again a month later.
