What size carb do I need?

I just had my engine completely rebuilt top to bottom with a stock cylinder slightly bored and mild porting and the carb I have on now is I think by measuring seems to be in the range of 38mm or slightly bigger.It has a 35 pilot with a 145 main and busts out terible at 3/4 to full throttle.Wants to burp when you hit the gas at idle sort of like it is loading up. Any ideas?

If you are running a 38mm carb, your jetting is way lean. I would start around 48 or 50 pilot, and about a 170 main
