help please asap

ok so my little brother has a 2007 yfz 450... the other day he downshifted into first and the shifter shaft snapped off inside the case so it basiclly just sits in 1st gear.. the yamaha dealership wants 400 bucks to fix it.. can anyone tell me how i can fix it for. like some detailed instructions and what parts to buy..

pretty easy fix. you will have to have a new shift shaft. take the right side cover off and push the shaft out. put the new one in. make sure the little donut is still on the shift mechanism.

As stated above it is an easy fix.

From what you described, all you should need is #19, and #10 from the parts link below.
