I am looking at buying a 250r but the seller said it needs a new head gasket because it is leaking coolant into the piston? That was his EXACT words. So would a head gasket fix this issue?

IT WILL IF IT LEAKS WHILE RUNNING. IF IT LEAKS JUST SITTING THERE YOUR GONNA NEED TO DECK THE HEAD AND CYLINDER AND POSSIBLY IT MAY HAVE A CRACKED CYLINDER. IT ALSO CAN COME FROM A BASE GASKET LEAK. A BASIC TOP END REBUILD WILL CURE THIS ISSUE. LOOKING AT ABOUT $150 TO DO A WHOLE REBUILD YOURSELF AND FIX ISSUE.

I forgot to mention it is a 330 motor. Will that make any difference?

NOT REALLY. SAME ISSUES. BUT COULD BE A LEAKING SLEEVE. MAY NEED TO BE RESLEEVED DEPENDING ON CYLINDER AND MAKER OF IT. SAME ISSUES? AFTERMARKET HEAD? IF IT IS IT MAY BE BAD ORING BY THE PLUG

ok, thanks for the info. He is asking $1,200 OBO for it. Does that seem like a decent price? It's an '86 model.

I had that happen to mine, it leaked coolant into piston when sitting. I replaced the o-rings and it solved the problem. It could be alot of things, for $1200, I'd just buy it. What does the rest of the bike look like? needs bearings, stuck swingarm bolt, ball joint/tie-rod end play, bent fins(alot) on radiator, bent frame, etc??

I have not seen it in person yet. It looks good in the pics but you can't tell alot by a picture.
