When my 400ex is in neutral and I am pulling it backwards since I don't have a reverse the chain pops loud kinda like a slipping noise. It just started this weekend.

Usually that means the sprockets/chain are getting worn or are dry. It's normal and it's not slipping, so don't worry.

Try oiling the chain, and if it doesn't go away look at the sprockets and see how much wear they have. While your at it check the little rollers on the chain. When a chain is worn those little rollers jiggle around and make noise. My 400ex has the original chain and it does that these days.
