After a season where injury had Dustin Wimmer's chances for a championship repeat looking grim, we find ourselves at ringside to watch the last round of racing for the series here at Loretta Lynn's Ranch.

Wimmer only needs to finish 1 moto of competition to grab himself title number 2!

The heat is stiffling here in Tennessee, with temps into the 90's and enough sunshine to cook your brain!

The heat did not seem to slow down Josh Creamer who was rocketing around the track in top form!

Pappy
08-15-2009, 09:49 PM
This round would also see the rise of Cody Gibson as he makes the leap from Pro am to Pro.

Gibson is a firecracker on a quad and it will be exciting to see if he can control his speed tomorrow and put in a solid race.

With the Steel City race now cancelled, this will mark the end of the season on a national level for many Pro racers.

Doug Gust marks another phenominal season as he is just 2 moto's away from putting a capper on 2009

Pappy

For Goodman, the MX season may be coming to an end, however he has a championship on the line in the EDT series that he has been battling for all summer.

Good luck Harold!

Heather Byrd put a wrap on yet another Womens Pro Am Championship as she cruised to victory here at Loretta Lynn's!

The racing action has been intense in all classes, and the track is a tough one. It will indeed be an accomplishment to win here!

The Youth racers looked as good as ever out there, but would not escape the pitfalls we all face. I saw many wrecks today but none that seemed serious and none were reported to me to be thankfully!

Cody is definately gonna be in a new league of riders. No longer the fastest guy, just another name. I think at best a top 10.

Good luck to him.

I don't think Gibson will be another name. He has the right team of people behind him. Don't count him out period! Today will be simply getting a feel of the pro class. 2010 he comes out swinging. Just my opinion.

He is definatly a strong starter b/c of his size, and good reaction time. With good starts, considering he can last 20 minutes, i say top 5...

Gust and Wienen finishing 7th, and 13th respectively is going to make moto 2 all the more interesting. Byrd now has a major advantage for second place and the focus will go to Gust and Wienen over third place with Creamer now possibly in reach for the same goal.

Yamaha has a lot of work to do to compete in this class YFZ or YFZR.You may have to wait untill the next revamp to see them on a more equal level. They should of brought Nelson east for a round this year.He is able to race hard with frinchie and beat him most of the time. When frenchie goes east he has run top 6 or so.That is much better then pat could dream about anymore and tb has only done that a few times all season.I think Nelson is the best rider Yamaha has this year and he is left on the west coast to only race the ITP and WORCS.

Byrd had a fair lead on Natalie

Just got the call and Wienen was running right behind Creamer just waiting for him to slip up which is exactly what happened. Creamer had to get off the gas to save it over a jump and Wienen got through.

Harold Goodman was running really strong out front but he had a rock get lodged in his front rim between the caliper, spindle and rim which explains the downtime we saw while he was getting it out.

Track side was about 86-90 degrees and a little cloudy providing shade.

Not completely sure but it looks like Cody Gibson's motor was blowing a little smoke in moto 2 which is a clue to what put him out. He is a very talented rider and he sure had some poor luck for his debut.

Guys that are racing them now are having good luck. Morello and bruening are both pretty fast on them with little to no real issues that kept them from finishing. The motors are extremely powerful and very light weight.

I think Honda has hade a history of not doing the best thing for there atv racers, and i might be wrong but i think thats why natalie left them in the first place.I would like to see Byrd and Upperman on KTM next year and if Digger hangs it up this year would love to see the Natalie on with Suzuki, dont know what the deal is with those can-am but Natalie is so much better then those last 2 season with them but the almighty $$$$ will say if he is back with can-am my 2 bits anyway thanks to everyone @ atvriders for a great season of race coverage keep it up

In my opinion I don't think Gust should hang it up this year. He is still extremely talented and fast and has finished in the top five at most of the races this season. But it will come down to if HE thinks that he can still compete.

natalie was so smooth on that EC gibson/fox honda in 05'. i like john and his career is nowhere near over.

gust should retire but still work for suzuki.

creamer and weinen arent going anywhere soon.

byrd...its hard to say. seems like time for a change but why fix it if it aint broken idk.

gibson and hetrick both moved too fast in their career's.

upperman and goodman belong on their hondas

pat brown in my mind should have stepped it up but i think working on the yami's will help him if he really gets the passion back like he had in 06'.

and for one of my favorite riders jeremy lawson, he is such a laid back and very talented rider i see him a major contender for a championship in the next couple years.

Are you mentally retarded? Why should Doug Gust retire, the man is on the podium still and at the front of the pack, almost always ahead of most of the young guns!

I'm gonna have to second that "are you retarded?" How did Gibson and Hetrick move too fast? Gibson ran away with pro am this year and Hetrick has won a couple races if I'm not mistaken. The kid is only 16 and he's winning pro am. Now tell me how that's moving too fast.

Why should Gust retire? Someone with more time than me could probably figure it out, but I bet if he isn't the most consistant rider in the series he's darn close. He doesn't win but he is consitantly 3-6 or so, which adds up to pretty good finish every year. Too outrun guys half your age is pretty incredible.

Plus he's on equipment, that besides Wimmer, EVERY rider in the series wishes they were on. When is the last time Suzuki had a mechanical DNF?

its all good, but when folks that dont go to the races and base opinions that are unfounded post, it makes the rest of us feel just like you! we wonder why we should post when we get these out of wack statements about a rider, especially one of the greatest to ever race!

gust isnt slow, he is in the hunt at every round and he is getting paid based on his performance not on who he is.

if he was finishing last or holding up riders, hell id agree with ya, but that day is a LONG way off:D

and remember, a bad day in the real world can get alot worse when you allow the internet to throw a wrench in your venting lol

Yeah, thumbs up for Gust. He is the most inspiring rider out there! I don't understand why everyone is bashing on Gibson for making the leap....... Does anyone remember Wienen's first pro season??? He was slow and out of shape for the pro class. Look what hard work and conditioning has done for him. I think he is the fastest rider today. No rider will jus come in and start winning moto's and races his first year. Give the kid a chance and form an opinion after a full season of pro class racing. On a side note, zook should pick Wienen back up when Gust decides to retire!!

Gibson moving up to fast???!!! hahaha who is the dumbass that said that. He beat Thomas Brown straight up in Pro Am unlimited and would have won pro am production if not for engine failures. That kid has the most talent of anyone that throws a leg over a quad and i gurantee he will be a pro champ one day. This was the best thing that could have happened to cody cause now he knows where he stands and will train his *** off and be better than ever next season. I c no one mentioned that the kid has rode suzukis all his life and switch to kawi this season and STILL kicked ***. U idiots will c. it may take 5 years but wimmer but watch out, my man cody will put that #40 out front where it belongs

I have the luxury of riding and racing with Gibson, Josh Williams, Devin Heimes, Jeffery Rastrelli and many of the other extremely fast guys. I watched Gibson race the SSQSA series here in Florida with all of the guys that I mentioned. He is crazy fast and talented. He matured a lot within the last year and will only gain more Wisdon and Talent that will help propel him to the top in the future.
I cant wait to start the new SSQSA season in October!!!
Watching Gibson and the rest of those guys in our Pro-Am class will be very exciting. I race the A class in that series and wont even get on the track with Gibson! My ego cant handle it.
Hopefully, we will get some more Pro's to run our series so I can see how Gibson handles them.

Simon MX49

I agree Gust is no where near due to retire. When you're that consistent, and still that fast, why retire?

Upperman tried a Kawi, and it didnt work near as well for him as his Honda. He should stay right where he's at, same as Goodman.

And Gibson will be out front with Wienen and Wimmer soon as he gets the pro class nerves out of the way and calms down a little bit, there have been races his lap times have been as fast as 4th or 5th in the pro class. Cody will get it. I've heard him called a young Jeremiah Jones (or something like that), and if this proves to be true he'll be one of the greatest riders of all time

KTM needs to put someone in the pro class on one an SX. Bruening is having good luck with his, and he's really getting fast. I've been riding with him since 05 and he's come a long way. Dont rule him out of the Pro Am points race next year. I wouldnt rule Cottage out either, I've known him since he was on a Blaster and runnin 250c on a YZ250, and he's getting fast. Pro Am next year is gonna be stacked

We're all just going to have to wait and see... Today the '09 season ended and anticipation for the '10 season has begun. Personally I'd like to see Little get back on a Honda. I may get bashed for this and if I do oh well. If Little would have had any kind of endurance his last year on the big red machine he would have took the big trophy home at the end of the year, I know that was wpsa and I know he may not do no where near as well as he did that season but man I'd like to see where he would stand today on a Honda.
