hey guys, my bike has been doin this for awhile randomly, 1st and 2nd are fine but trying for 3rd....sometimes it will just not go, clutching or not, its like there are no more gears, 3rd on its way out? and also my shifter has a bit of play in it(in/out), tht normal?

You might have some teeth missing off the 3rd gear, or you could possibly have a bent shift fork.

sounds like you have a bent shift fork, probably nothing wrong with the gears but you will have to check the shift plate and forks.

great, guess i'm spliting the cases this winter. but it doesnt do it very often, still the fork?

same thing happened to me. it was a tiny spring that bent and wouldnt let me shift. so the spring cost me 2.00 the labor was 300. not fun

most likely could be spring on shift fork you probably wont be able to tell until you get inside. Mine stuck in second and when I got in there it was a bent shift plate. great winter project.

ya i guess so, glad i got a heated shop!!!, i'll go over the internals to, piston, crank bearings etc etc, i would never take it to a dealer......mine wanted $100 to check my valve lash. anywho thanks guys
