Obviously, take the nut off the balljoint first. Put the fork between the spindle and the balljoint (where the rubber on the balljoint is) and then smack the back of the fork with a hammer. The fork is tapered so as you drive it between the spindle and the balljoint it will separate them.

just bash the spindle with a sledge and it will just pop out

All you have to do is smack the spindle beside where the stud goes through it a couple of times and it should pop right out.

Or loosen nut on ball-joint, but leave nut on. Then tap the nut with a hammer, this will keep from screwing up the threads. Should only take a couple hits to loosen the ball-joint from the spindle. ;)

Beware....that technique WILL usually tear up your balljoint boots.

If you intend to save the boots, what I would try, is just put consistent pressure to pull the balljoint out... then just smack the spindle, all around the balljoint, with a ball-peen hammer(Maybe a dead-blow, never tried it personally), or the like. It'll usually come loose.

Always works just fine for me.

EDIT: Obviously some others beat me to it. lol

no need to save the boots or ball joints im putting on Burgard +3 but anyways the ball joint remover was to big so i used a tie rod remover(the same thing except the fork isnt as spread out) and i got the tops off but those bottoms wont bugde at all im getting tired of this i want to put on my new arms!

doing it with the picke fork, I've just ripped the ball joints. I put the atv on a stand, hold up the side I want to remove and give the spindle a few good hits with a 5lb sledge. Usually 1 hit knocks the top and bottom out. The fancy tools just seam like they work better, but most of time don't.

HydroDynamics (also know as the i-Shock people) make a really trick little ball joint press tool. You can buy one from them. It is basically one barrel-type piece that slips over the ball joint point and a series of screw-in attachments in different lengths. You get it started and use a wrench to widen the gap, and presto, it pops the ball joint out.

This is the best method. You can also use a socket in the same manner.
