IMO polaris makes some of the best utility quads. there rock solid. 1000 sounds good IF its in good shape. id ask for 900. the tranny will be costly id imagine.

The tranny for a sportsman 500 is not cheap at all. Is it the whole tranny (gearbox and rear end) or the CVT? The transaxle assembly is probably a 1500 to 2000 buck part with labor. If you want to spend the money a sportsman 500 is a great utility quad. I have a 2003 camo one.

Could be a linkage problem.. just gotta check it out. But my case, I had a 02scrambler that had a similar problem, the polaris dealer wanted 600 to replace the tranny. I took the tranny apart and the chain inside had derailed and bound up. new chain and gasket was 60 bucks. Took most of the day to do but was well worth it.
