Looking at one. the guy wants $300. he says he thinks it dropped a valve. Is it worth it. He has a bill of sale with it. It looks decent shape to me.

if it looks good and everything works but the motor id say its a deal, i have a stock cylinder if its chewed up, mine just lost 3 valves and the cylinder looks perfect.

look at the recent posting "blew up my 400" by me bigbad400 i posted pics of the desruction this morning

Yea he said he thought it dropped a valve never looked at it. I can build the motor just was curious to see if it was worth 300 buckaroos. I think i might do a 440 with studs and a port and polish head with stage 3 hotcam on this one. Hopefully the crank won't be messed up or i might go with a stroker if thats the case. I am having a hard time finding the 300 bucks though. I am prolly gonna get it and put it in the shed for later down the road.lol.

Worst case scenario I would get it and part it. Just the frame/sub frame will get your money back. Let alone the bottom end and trans, plus suspension components.

yea if the bottom end is any good. he said he knows for sure the motor is locked up. I am guessing it droped a valve and runined the cylinder and head.

If you didnt get into the motor you dont know if it dropped a valve or not. Best rule of thumb, figure on crank, piston and cyl. Full rebuild cause it probably needs it. If it turns out its less bonus. Anyway its definately worth $300, always need parts right.

completely agree i decided against a stroker. cost to much and isn't reliable. I doubt its the crank he said he heard it in the top end. I am guessing a valve dropped and runined the top end(hopefully). i am offering him 275 cause its a long drive and i only get 10.9 mpg. He said he would take 300 but i can't afford the drive and the bike. Hope he will take the 275

Who spreads this crap about strokers being unreliable? IMO a 440 stroker is more reliable than a 440 big bore.

Strokers are very reliable. Mine has been as reliable as it was when it was stock.

I digress. $300 is a steal for a 2000 400ex, blown engine or not.

after talking to him in more depth i think it needs alot of work....he said hes selling as is for parts or fix up meaning theres more than just motor problems. I am still going to try and pick it up. Its 125 miles from my house so its gonna cost me alot in gas.
