which quad?!?!

OK I just looked at an 04 450r today and the thing is race ready. New Fox Floats and Burgard A-Arms. Dominater 2 axle with Itp bajas all around. Brand new full nerfs and teather kill switch. Plastics really scratched up but not cracked anywhere and quadtech carbon fiber hood. Alot of boot wear on the frame but no bends. The engine is coming off a fresh rebuild and is built to run 105 octane fuel. Rossier full exhaust is on it. He is also throwing in a new DRD exhaust and another set of rims with sand tires on it. This is 3 grand! Needs new tires soon though.

The other quad is a 2006 ltr 450 that looks brand new. Its got full nerfs and beadlocks in the rear. Ac bumper and grab bar. Cherry bomb and thats it. He changed the oil and filter every other ride and I know hes not bsing cause he has 10 extra oil filters in his garage. He wants 3400

So my question is which quad? Iam going to be racing it and going to alot of tracks so I dont want to many problems.

I have both and I prefer my LTR on the track. Nothing against the Honda and that one is setup very nicely but I love the low feeling the LTR has and just the overall package. It really all comes down to what YOU prefer and what YOU think is the better deal. I myself would buy the LTR BUT that is me. They both are great quads and you can't go wrong with either one. Personally I'd go for LTR. I own a 450r and if I was to buy one, I'd go for LTR. Its fresher and will last longer and you can set the engine and suspension to suit you. Better in the long run.

As an R owner, I hate to say this, but I think I'd take the LTR. Both have issues, such as the cranks on the 04-05 R's, and tranny whine, and the need of a shift pin relocater on the LTR's. Buying anything used is a gamble aswell. Many like the used quads to have performance parts, but I would much rather pay a few bucks more or equal for a stock quad in excellent shape, than a decked out quad, that you know has been beat on. What good is all the fancy extra's, when the engine is trashed, and cant be ridden? Both in the same condition, I'd take the 450r!! ;)

I'd agree with wykyd450r. I,d love to buy totally stock Quads , there not messed around with and the LTR sounds like it has been looked after.

Yeah I really want to get back into the sport but moneys tight! the ltr was sooo clean but I still have to add some stuff. The kid that has the 450r is only 17 and raced only a couple of local races so how beat could it be? and if he just got the engine rebuilt then they must have replaced the crank... right?

well worst comes to worst the engine craps out and I drop a new one in during the winter when I have more money.

If I had a choice between a full race prepped quad which had a full engine rebuild after 4 races and a stock one that had be looked after by a weekend warrior. Tough one but I go for the weekend warrior.
Buy the LTR and in the winter you can build it to how you want it.
