Ok guys i have all the mods in my list down below. I run no air box lid. My jetting is 42 pilot and 170 main. I am running so lean that i am getting pinging in higher rpms. The plug is white. I have a stock exhaust and am wandering if theres any adjustment i can make to richen it up without putting another main in.

you can try to turn out the fuel air screw to see if that helps. i would not go more than 3.5 turns out though. steve

You shouldn't be running lean with a 170. Theres a problem with your quad. Look for a leak in the intake boot, hole in the air filter, etc.

agreed. steve

Its on the underside of the carb near the airboot. The only way I can see this being the problem is if it fell out. It doesnt make the type of adjustments needed to correct a problem as large as yours... only minor adjustments.

The screw is only for fine tuning so you either have a leak somewhere or you need to go up on your main.

yea but i want to make sure the screw isn't turned all the way in. The bike runs flawless for about 30-45 minutes till it gets really hot. Then it starts pinging and what not.

im thinking you have a crack in your intake boot or a leak some ware that only opens up when its warm, try using ether or starter fluid spraying around the carb seals and the intake boot if it revs up on you when you spray it its pulling in extra air/dirt right to the motor.

your air fuel screw is likely right ware its supposed to be at 2 1/2 -3 1/2 turns out it wouldn't normally take the machine to warm up before you'd notice it if it was that.

check air filter and maybe wash it (althow that would richen its worth a shot)

are you running good gas? you should be running at least mid grade (89 octane) or premium (93/94 octane)

do you have the sparks key ? sometimes 6 degree advance is too far and causes spark knock and it will be lean symptoms, white plug and ect.

I clean my filter after every ride. I cleaned it today actually. I run 93 octane gas. My car is so clean though. I will check the boot to make sure though like you guys said.

i did everything you guys said to do spraying on the boots and everything. i even took the boots off and there was no cracks or anything. I took some pics of my plug but they didn't look so great, i will try to get some better ones tonight. Could i be pinging from needing race gas or anything? The plug looked pretty white today still.

get the best 93 you can. like bp or something good and try that. you may need to go up on the main. steve

Yea but i mean its pinging crazy. So i don't know i use kangaroo gas cause thats all that nearby other than shell. I use 93 and i have even added this stuff lucas makes to help stop pinging. It did little to no help. The 170 seems high to me but you think a 175 might help me out any? I don't wanna ruin anything.

it may i guess it is hard to say. are you close to sea level? i am at a 170 and i am at 1500 ft so it is not unrealistic to have to run a 175. if i went to sea level i would be running something close to that. i would give it a try if i were you, steve

I live in jacksonville florida. How do i find out if i am at sea level?

you can search it on google or google earth it, weather w underground i think has it too. you have about 16 ft for the ave elevation. lol, big difference from 1500 lol. steve

Yeah its not adjustable, Id go to a 175 main try that. It seems high but it wont hurt to try, if its lean it will only get fatter.

what do you mean by if its lean it will only get fatter?

also how does sea level change anything. And how does it work? Like higher the bigger jet or something?

Sense you have a 05 i'd get an adjustable one from a 99-04. Although some people shim there needle.

Choppers

when you say shim whats that mean? and can a needle really make me run this lean?

shims are little washer that go under the clip on the needle to raise it up. it could make you pretty lean just having it too low. steve

i think i might get a 175 and 180 and go from there

sorry fatter is richer and being at sea level you need larger jets then at higher elevation. If you are too rich it will cough and spudder it wont really hurt anything but running lean creates heat and causes detonation(combustion before the spark).try a few larger jets and see how it runs.
