View Full Version : Best gearing for 18s
I have a 86 bottom end, 89 long rod, ESR 310 ported for MX. I have 18s on the rear and thats all I run, I ride mostly MX but also alot of tight trails and hill climbs, but its all sandy. I have been runnin 13/39, but I recently changed to 14/38 and it seems a bit to tall. Has anyone ever ran 14/39 or 13/38 and had good luck.

with 18's you should be able to run a 14/38 with no problems at all running a 310.

My 265 is running 13-38 and it pulls it too easy, im accually thinking about gearing to a 13-37..since all i do is roast the tires off coming out of corners.

You should try 14/38 or 14/39. The larger sprockets will last longer and be easier on your chain.

i have about the same setup as yours, and 14-38 is a hair tall for me to... except it is with 20" tires. with 18's i shoud easily pull 14-38 or even 14-36 as stated from others. Lets hear more about your setup. Which pipe do you run? which carb and reeds?
I have a bottom end esr pipe, 38 A/S, and some boyseen carbon reeds.
