building a 440 could i get by with my stock carb rejetted till i can get a 450r carb? or will i not be able to get it jetted in? id realy like the doug eichner carb but i cant afford a 400$ carb. im only doing a 440 cuz its cheap for me right now, is there a inexpensive but still good way to do this?

i think you should be able to get it jetted pretty good with the 400 carb. the 450 would be ideal but you should be able to suffice. steve

try a 185 main, a 45 pilot, 3 turns out on the f/a screw and the needle on the middle position (3) and see how it comes out. Do some searching to find some more suggestions. this stuff should get you pretty close to good. steve

awsome thanks steve. so thats a general beginning point or did you find someone with similar mods? just curious how you came to that conclusion, i have a 42 and a 170 3rd clip now. i would have guessed to go alot bigger in the main even than 185... but you seem to know your way around these things (400's that is) so i trust its accurate but i was just wondering again thanks for the help.

i think that may get you pretty close but you can go to a 190 to start and work back from there too. i read the 440 had a stage 2 and an exhaust but i am unsure about the lid being off on it. I guess i would start with the 190, 42 and 3 turns out on the f/a, along with 3rd position on the needle. it is always better to start rich and work down then lean and go up. lol, steve
