Today i got really lucky.
Just getting home from recording drums all day in the studio and i did my ussual bookmark stops, the first being Portland Craigslist.
The title was "250R race frame". Yeah, yeah...what ever. Open it and upon further inspection of the tiny pic i see a fliptop subframe.
A hour later and after calling in some favors to my good friend Ian...aka Leatherface i walked away with this.

Its a 03 JRD narrow front end/Cr 500 link (i think??).
A JRD gullwing ladder swinger.
Unknown a-arms that dont fit.
Another chrome shorter unknown swinger and a set of Pro-Pegs.

After a hours worth of inspection heres what i have found.
1)it has 2 small dents and scratches on the bottom frame tube by the pegs.
2) the flip top needs some TLC.
3)the swinger has some chain rub and needs new bearings, seals and guides.
4)i needs new powder and chrome.
5) I will have to fabricate engine mounts and from some of the threads i have read mounts go for 600-900 bucks...come on now! Really??
6) its straight and has no cracks or re-welds.
7) it will need a steering stem bearing carrier fabricated.

Does anyone have any info on these?? can anyone identify the chrome swinger and arms??
800screws??
I might have exhaust bend issues but im sure Arlan can figure something out ( i really dont want to cut a frame support)

Today the 250R gods were watching out for me and now i have one of the final pieces of my build.
Thank you all for your help.
Jason

If you can get us some bigger pictures with better light i am sure we can help you out, and yes the a arms look to be lonestar

The million dollar question is

HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR EVERYTHING?

The a arms look like lsr a arms to me....

Question is... those swingarms look more like no link setups rather than cr500... but i could be wrong....

That looks like a Houser No-Link Swinger.

Hey Jason,

I'm curious if you would reveal how much you got it for - the reason I ask is because I have seen a number of these frames on complete machines for $3500. I would hope that you didn't pay anything near $1000.

The other thing is - I hope you didn't get screwed because you didn't know the specifics of what you were buying.

From what I know:

1. That looks to be a hybrid frame - I don't recall ever seeing a JRD frame that was specifically built for the 250R. Are you building a hybrid? Did you get mounts with it?

2. JRD generally uses No-link rear shocks

3. JRD frames were built like Roll Design copies but IMO without the streamlining. A-arms, swingarm and stem are all build specifically for that frame - if you didn't get JRD A-arms with it, you may be able to fit some Roll Design a-arms on it as JRD A-arms are scarce and I'm sure you don't want to buy a NEW set.

4. The mystery swingarm is for a Houser Hybrid, The a-arms are definitely lonestar

5. JRD Airboxes are custom made for the frame as well - you may have to order one from them.

Hope this helps some.

I got some more info jrd frame accept 250r, crf, and yz4**f motors, just a change in motor mounts. They are no-link and that looks like the swingarm they build. Jrd sells the a-arms for ~$800 and the airbox is a UM Racing airbox for a trx250r, they press on a sleeve to make it bigger for the lt 500 boot they use. Call up Jrd racing and they surely can tell you alot more about it.

You may also want to contact ZRider400 on here. Hes a good guy to deal with and just finished doing a JRD/crf hybrid. Im pretty sure he went to the extent to get other motor mounts made as well.... so he may have some info for you. Hes recently parted out the hybrid. Heres a link.

I dont think thats right about the motor changinging by mounts. According to Joe they only ever made 4-5 frames that aceept all those motors. Another thing is they dont wanna make the 250r motor mounts either.

Thanx for all the input.
I now realize that its a no-link.
Im fairly certain that im going to have to fabricate engine mounts, intake and might have to remove a frame support by the bottom right a-arm mount for exhaust pipe room.
Now that im at the shop with Arlan iam lucky enough to have a amazing machinist and access to alot of specialized tools.
Master which a-arms going to fit this?? I know the ones i have and old stockers dont even come close (they are to wide)

What about nerfs??...Blingstar,IMS or our favorite AC?? These are AC but who knows which ones...??

As for what i paid for it...heres a hint "i opened the door and there was that damn lochness monster again, i asked him what you need lochness monster and he said....."

to use a 250r engine, u need new motor mounts and the brace going up and down on the right side of the frame closest to the front motor mount tab, has to be moved for the pipe to fit.....

i have to say though...jrd can make or has everything u need to use the frame, but they are expensive. also i had a hard time with the handling on the quad....

good luck though.

Hey jason,i deal with jrd all the time, there about 30 min away from me. Im pretty sure most jrd frames were made to accept those different motors with just a change of mounts. Give JRD a call, ask to speak to little joe, nice guy,he designs there products,he should be able to answer your questions and make you anything specific for that frame. (856)881-5299-They are in Glassboro nj. They have always gone above and beyond for me and give me a great discount in there shop.

Looking forward to another great build. It's funny how you picked up another project, as did myself.

Let me know if there is anyway we can help each other out. I would say have two compete bikes and get a trailer for the Astro-puff van. :p

Good Luck!
Dan
