I just recently purchased a blaster for my gf a few weeks ago. Well long story short the piston failed and I took it to my local quad shop to get it fixed. I told the shop owner what happened and he took a look at it. He told me the top end was shot which I figured but he also told me that the crank was no good and would need to be replaced as well. Im use to cranks going out on me all the time. I told him if it got over 500 to fix to just tell me and ill come get it. Well it was going to be 800 for him to rebuild the motor. I took it apart and inspected the crank. Im not seeing a problem with it though. There is no metal shaving in the case. No crank bearing are bad. The rod doesn't stick not scratches or huge chunks of metal are gone from the crank. My question is what do you think he meant by it being bad? Am I not seeing something here? Its not even bent? It moves like its new it even looks like its in good shape?

Its not scorched at all . By play what do you mean where the rod connects or somewhere else?

check to see if the main bearings are worn by pushing/pulling on the flywheel to see if there is any clearance...
