Okay I've had my 04 450r a little over a year and had no problems till now.

Went riding last week it was working fine all day till I got to this 1 area with liek waste deep water. The bike just stopped working. I would shift and nothing it would just rev up like every gear was neutral.

I figured it was the clutch plates. So I changed em. Bike worked fine.

I went out riding yesterday. Bike was working great. Then again the bike just started not shifting at all. Every gear was neutral and just reving. What could it be?

I'm sure I wasn't spinning. Cause I'd have been moving fine when I got out of the water.

What kind of lubricant is supposed to be on that side?

Transmission fluid? Oil? Or something else?

its supposed to have gear oil, go buy some honda gear oil, its in a red tall bottle. i would replace the clutch, and plates, and all of that fun stuff, and put the correct amount of gear oil in it. you should change it every time you change your engine oil too.

I just replaced the plates... 1 ride later this happened. I used the wrong lubricant. My clutch cable is pretty screwed up so I gotta change that too.

Just regular oil... Called the local motorsports place and they said oil. So I used my usual 10w-40..

the oil in the tranny side cant have the energy conserving label on the bottle. It will wear out the clutch.

i am getting really confused when i read this. some people are telling me it's okay to run 10w-40 oil i(honda oil) in the gear side and some say not to. i just got mine an plan to do an oil change soon, so will Honda racing oil work for both sides?

Regular Honda oil (red label) yes Maxima oil is what I use....but oil with moly or just regular ole 10w 40 that use for the old ford NO....probably not good.

HONDAS hp4 gold bottle you can run in both sides engine and tranny, hondas hp4m with moly silver bottle you can only run in engine side. you can run hondas hp TRANS oil red bottle 80-85 weight in the tranny side also but not the engine side. the main thing is to not run regular oil that has the energy conserving label on it in the tranny side it will wear the clutch out pretty fast.you can buy pretty much any oil without the e. con. in the round symbol on the bottle of oil. in the circle ON THE BOTTLE make sure it doesnt say e. con oil

On the clutch side you want to run the hp4 in the gold bottle thats the one that says WITH OUT MOLY if you run the reg hp4 in the black bottle with the red lable or the silver bottle hp4 you will go thur clutches in a hurry. Good luck

I guess I gotta head to the Honda dealer and pick up some of this. I ordered a new clutch cable today maybe that'll help a little?

Make sure all your springs are good. I would put stiffer springs on there. Also if you were riding with a clutch cable stiff enough to do harm, then it's constantly eating away at the plates, friction and pressure plates.

I run Honda GN4 in both sides of my motor, and I have been running that for the past 2 years.

I just replaced the plates and springs with a Tusk Heavy Duty clutch plates/spring set. My cable was messed up too so I figure maybe thats the new problem. I know its the oil I used though cause it gives a really weird smell whenever I turn the bike on now. Something happened. I'm gonna tear it apart tomorrow or Saturday when I have time.
