I have a 1987 Suzuki LT500 Quadracer and I have been mixing 1 pint (16oz) of Yahmalube with 4 1/2 to 5 gallons of gas which is 36\1 to 40\1 mixture. The guy I bought it from said to mix it like this. He also said to lean towards the 4 1/2 gallon in the winter and the 5 gallon mixture in the summer. Well its cold here so I tried the 4 1/2 gallon mixture first, but the spark plug seem to be getting black so I went to the 5 gallon mixture and it seems to be running fine. This is where the problem comes in the original manual says to use a 20\1 mixture which is about twice the oil I been using in my 5 gallons of gas. I'm trying Blendzall Ultra now and wondering if I should use a 20/1 mixture.

If i were you i wouldnt switch, if its running fine with your yama-lube then stick with it. But if you must switch for some reason keep your same ratio. I have a lt250 and i just rebuilt it. I started mixing at 20:1 like the book said, it was way to rich. I backed off to 36:1 and it is doing fine. When i was mixing 20:1 it was hard to start and i kept fouling plugs. I would stay with yama-lube.

My 250r says to run 20:1 also. I think most 2 stroke's manuals say that. It's just to stay on the safe side. I run 32:1 with race gas and Klotz Benol. 32:1-40:1 should be fine. If you aren't fouling plugs anymore and it runs good stay with it.

I run klotz 32:1 on my blaster. air cooled can run 20:1 to 32:1 water cooled can run 32:1 to 50:1

I've heard you can mix a 64:1 with Golden Spectro, quite lean i think.

32:1 is safe 20:1 is to much oil and golden spectro stuffed two cranks with that oil never again at 64:1 would ruin your crank bearing, learned all these things from 1st hand experance. just my opionion, not trying to flame any one

Supposedly some of the new synthetics can run at up to 100:1, but weighing the cost of a new motor versus the cost of oil, I'll keep mine at 32:1

I hear 32:1 is most common.

Off topic but.... How many of you guys use synthetic? Is it better to stay with the regular stuff

i ran 32:1 on my quadracer and it ran fine.

i also run 32:1 on my R with 93 oct pump gas

Just for facts they used to run 100:1 with leaded gas back in the old snowmobiles. I'm talking early 70's.

Now i always run 32:1-40:1....seems to work best and things won't wear out as fast.

dont be as stupid as me and do a rough-mix...(pour gas into the tank, and then the amount of oil that looks right)...i now have had to take the carb off and the tank off and drain everything....managed to break a part in the carb too...i need to know what a good mix is for my yz...i have tried 32:1, as suggested by the previous owner, 40:1, and 50:1...the 32:1 smoked alot and so did the 40:1....

some smoke is good, it lets you know that your getting enough oil in your mixture, after it warms up, it'll clear out. Even after it is warm and it smokes a little at idle is fine too.

I'm not sold on synthetics yet. I run Benol which is castor oil. It's great for high rpm race engines (Blendzall is castor also i believe). The synthetics are supposed to burn cleaner and not gum up things, although most castors now have been "degummed". A buddy of mine ran castor in a blaster and it formed a gummy residue on the exhaust ports, but that's the only time i've seen something like that.
Plus, man castor smells gooooooooood!!! sweet
