Well, Im looking to buy a quad, my first quad. I am debating on 400ex or ltz400. I dont know which to get.

I would'nt say im a beginner, I ride my friends bikes every once and a while, I ride my dads Yamaha Big bear 4x4, and right now I drive a Suzuki RM85 motocross bike.

I am 14 years old, 5' 3", 115LBS, and will be taking a grow spurt in the near future. I will be riding a few small trails, and alot of open roads.

I just dont know which to get. Which one is better on gas? More reliable?

Thanks in advance guys !

well u r on a honda site so keep that in mind.

however the 400ex is a very simple, reliable bike. considering you can already operate a clutch a 400ex would be perfect for you. however you are kinda small (size, weight, etc)

what are we talking about here? a car or a quad?

i would go with the 400ex in my vote for reliability, the one i used to ride, i beat the cock off of it, and it took it like a complete champ....

the z400 i rode, was nice...fetl to tall for me..but was still a nice quad....

haha yeah, my dad is only.. 5' 7" , 5' 8".
i have a friend, who is also 14, and he is like 5' 11", and still growing. I do hate being short.

yes and if/when he grows...that truly wont be a problem...

nothing wrong with the EX. That quad is the reason we have the machines today that we do. Very durable, reliable and a great aftermarket presence.

that said, I would go with the suzuki. Excellent reliablilty record, good handling, decent handling, etc. It does everything well and nothing poorly. Most importantly, you will more than likely want a 450 eventually. The LTZ is most like any of the 450's and will teach you the most about maintence and how to live with the modern 4-stroke.

thanks for the tips guys ! does the 03+ ltz have reverse? right now in this economy, my choice might just depend on the best deal.

When I was 14 I got a 400ex and loved it. A couple weeks after I got it I got the chance to ride a 450r and owned one less than a year later. Regretted ever owning the 400.

But did you have alot of experience before you bought the 400? Also, the 450 is out of my price range :(
