Sound Levels at SilverLake Sand Dunes

I'm planning a trip to Silver Lake Sand Dunes with my wife next month. I haven't been there since '88 and I've heard they are alittle more strict on the noise levels than they used to be. I'm running a FMF fatty with an old style power core silencer. Do I need to run a Turbine Core or 'Q' ? Do you need any documentation to get the ORV sticker? Any other info would be great. Thanks and looking forward to some awesome dune action.

I'm not sure about sound levels, but I'm 90% positive you need a USFS approved spark arrestor.

Yea you have to have a sparky and I believe its 94 or 95 dcb. Its listed on there site through michigan dnr just to double check.

I go there almost every weekend. They always check for spark arrestor on weekends, but not usually on weekdays, and some weekends they do dB testing. The state law says 94 dB but they allow 98 or less. I have a Q and I blow around 90 at 3400-3500 RPM where they check me so im sure most silencers will get you through. I have several friends with four stroke race pipes so loud you cant think and they get through too. As for the documentation, none required- just give them your $16.25 (not sure if its different for out of state) and they hand you a sticker- they would never even know what you stuck it on. You also need a state park sticker and it is $24/$28 for residents/non residents.

Thanks for the info guys...... I am planning on a during the week trip to avoid the crowds. I'll definitely pick up a spark arrester silencer or a 'Q', just to be on the safe side.

Have you guys ever taken the ferry across Lake Michigan that goes into Milwaukee WI? I hate driving around Chicago with a trailer.

i rode there with a power core with no packing with spark arrester. the spark arrester makes your quad not as loud.
