my girlfriend is looking to get a smaller dual-sport, and i know nothing about them... she wants one to cruise around trails at the cabin and field lanes and stuff around my house and occasionally take on the road. she wants to spend under $1500, so what would be a good beginner bike? i saw a few '02 and '03 drz125s for around $1500, are they good bikes? her family has an older dirtbike that she rides around a little so shes not completely new to bikes...

my buddy had a drz125L

i am a strict quad guy but i actually had fun on it, and the kid was not easy on it at all and it never gave too much of a problem

honda made xr250l's until late 90's, you probably can get one of them cheap.

this is true but they might be a tad bit heavy for her i beleive they made a dr 125 and a dr 200 and a sp 200 there a bit lighter and all street legal , the drz 125 is offroad only

Yamaha made an XT200 that was really good for first timers. They had wide tires and were real stable.

They also made an XT225 that was nice.

If you really want something small then look for one of the kawasaki 100's..they sold many of them and they aren't too hard to find.
