ok so I am building an 87 warrior.
It was in running but poor shape. It was smoking like crazy and after disassemble we found .008 wear in the cylinder. So a new Weisco .020 piston is going in. The plastics were all cut for racing so we took them off and I have plastics from a 90-up style we are going to use. Also the headlight and taillights were gone so also we will use the 90-up ones. I know I will have to make a bracket to make the headlights fit but everything else looks like it will fit pretty well. The bike frame was blue, with blue & white plastics. I really should have taken a before picture. Anyway I will post up some new pics of what it looks like now. The frame is painted along with some other components and it is starting to go back together. I just got my cylinder back from the machine shop so I hope to put the engine back together this week.

Shifter Pics - IMS Flightline YZ250
I had to rebend this shifter in my press to allow it to clear the recoil pull starter. Fits perfect now.

OK Finally some finished pics. It still does not run but at least it is a complete bike now. It looks as though my cdi box is bad so I am waiting for one to come. Then I hope I will finally be able to ride this thing. :)

hey what year yz250 shifter is that? it should make the ol' warrior have easier and more positive shifts...

Ba9801

it is a Modified IMS Flightline YZ250 Shift Lever 1988-06. I had to put it in my press and rebend it to clear the recoil pull starter, but on bikes without the pull start it would fit just fine without having to bend it at all.

sorry for bringing back an old thread, but how wide is it, and how does it handle?

Ba9801

The front end itself is 6" wider than stock, 3" on each side. It seams to handle pretty good but it does have some additional bump steer. I just ordered a Gibson steering stabilizer for it to try to stiffen it up a bit. Also I think I will change the front wheel to 4x1 offset instead of the 2x3 offset to put the wheels under the bike just a bit more. I think than it will handle very well. As for the shock conversion to the Honda 400ex shocks, that was a big improvement as they have more travel than the stock warrior shocks. Also I put 9" wide wheels on the back with a 3x6 offset and they make the back feel much better. I only trail ride the bike, I am not sure how well the conversion kit would do in a racing environment. If you are going to race or do any kind of large jumps I would say full +2 or +3 A-Arms would be a better choice. This bike will never see any type of jumps at all and now will only be a spare bike for friends to ride.

Yes I painted the motor black, it was very easy to paint while it was out of the bike. I just cleaned it really good with simple green and a scrub brush and then died it with compressed air. The side cover is actually the recoil pull start assembly. You don't have one on a 93. They only used them from 87-89 and they added a decompression lever on the engine to allow you to pull start it.
