when i pick up the front of my 400ex
you can wiggle the bottom of the shock, tho the bolts are tight

also when i ride though rough **** there is some kind of annoying rattle and i cannot find out what it is.....

thats what i was thinking

would it be causing the noise in the front end also?

it sounds like metal on metal

yep a worn shock bushing would make a metal on metal sound. Goto a honda shop and tell them you need to replace the bottom shock bushing. They should get all the parts you need.
