so i was out riding today and i came off a jump that lands onto black top. so i reached or the clutch and dumped it just as i landed heard somthin pop and crack so i stocped looked at it. ran just like it did before. went to shift... nothing. i pull the clutch in and here is no shifting. the only way to shift is to power shift when bogging down. went to a friend that is good with motors and he said i broke the fork gears in my shift drum. cost 50 each and theres 3 of them. and to get 2 them you have to split the bottem case...just my luck right? thats a ill sure to be over 500. perfect timing too since we just put it up for sale...

It won't hurt to yank off the side cover where the gear shift/drum goodies are and hope that something happened there.

Only costs you a gasket to inspect it. IDK the 400EX, on some motors that linkage and pawl/spring stuff is on either side.

I'm not sure how bulletproof the 400EX tranny is, but I'd be surprised if you grenaded the tranny unless it was a real tough hit on a motor that was ready to launch.

I find ALLOT of external shifting issues without splitting cases, you may get lucky :)

yup, we are pulling the clutch cover off tomorrow to see what we can do, hoping that i wont be spending much of my next $700 paycheck on this issue, as in im only 15 and money happens to be short ha

Your description isn't very good, but it sounds more like a clutch thing than a tranny thing.

How do you know 2 of 3 before its torn down? Wouldn't you have to tear it down first? Just wondering.

because it lets me shift the way you normal would between 4th and 5th gear. dont ask me lol its just what my friend says. we are replacing all three anyway and we are thinking about dropping in a high comp piston
