View Full Version : case saver question

A buddy of mine was telling me about a case saver made for the R that mounts by using part of the shifter as well as bolts. He said the way that it is mounts, part of it is made to let the shift shaft go through it and then the rest is by bolts.

But... he could not remeber the name of it. Does anyone know who makes this? I could really use something like this because I have a little case damage in that area and this would work great.

One last question. I am not one to let a chain get slack or wear out. When it shows wear, I replace it all. I have never thrown a chain on any bike or atv that I have ever owned. How likely is the R to throw a well maintained chain? If it is all kept up, do I really need to worry about it?

Just thought I would ask. I know it would be a good idea to run one. Just wondering how important it really is when that is one of the things that I take really good care of.

That's pretty trick looking. I like it.

Can you still run a 15 tooth front sprocket with it?

I just bought one and I think you would have to do some grinding to get a 15 to work. You can actually still use this saver if your bottom bolt is broke.

I have one of these case saver's, I had to grind on it for a 14 tooth sprocket.

JL ATV also has them, at least they did, I have had one of theirs for years. Not sure if they are still making them .

The one off ebay?? If so, I'll not get one. I like it, but don't really want to do any grinding.

I don't mind grinding a touch if I have to. But I should not need to since I am going to be running stock gearing.

This saver should work great for me because I have a little bit of case damage.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

It should help protect the case where the shift shaft comes through, an area that most case savers dont offer alot of protection for. I've had several Rs that have been repaired in that area before I got them.

The guy that makes these case savers on ebay lives right down the road from me. I have been buying them for a few years now and they work great. They barely fit a 14 tooth sprocket, if you want it to fit with a little extra wiggle room some very light grinding may be neeeded. They are high quality and have a very nice finish, and I figure if your given the option why not protect your shift shaft? I also have a Rath Racing case saver made for a 15 tooth, its paper thin and scares the crap out of me every time I use it, but wow is that 15 tooth fun.

i had a krause chain break with rath case saver on, it kept the chain from bunching up and spit it out the back.

That is the point of the case saver being a tight fit. Sot the chain will not bunch up. That bunching up is what breaks stuff. If the chain can run out the back, no big deal.

if it will barely fit, thats good. The tighter it is, the less likely it is to break your case saver off and ruin your case.
