Any hints on starting up a Drr 70 after new cylinder and pipe?

It hasd an Airsal cylinder and Technigas pipe before. Now has an Athena top end and Drr 90 pipe.

I got it to fire once (had to kick on it forever) and ran it for about 5-6 minutes and then I shut it down. I let it cool off ofr about an hour and then could not get it to fire again.

is it alway this dificult to start with new yop end? is there anything I could check for or any tips for starting?

Thanks!

Eric

A new top end won't make it hard to start. I would begin with checking the squish, compression and checking spark.

Jag,

Spark is good, dont have means to check compression. The issue might be the squish. Using the smallest shim on the base of the cylinder and the thinest head gasket I had I could only get it down to .037. Could this be making it hard to start? if I get the cylinder milled do I want them to take it off of the top or bottom?

Anyone know of any machine shops around the west side of indianapolis? I have been quoted between $50 and $75 for the two shops that I have found willing to do deck the cylinder. This seems high.

Thanks!

Squish is now 0.025, engine is grounded to frame, have spark. I got to start and run once for about 6 minutes then the boy shut it down and I can not get it to refire. I think I have a bruise on my foot now. What should I be looking for?

TGCheeseman you gonna be around this weekend?

check for faulty kill switch, intermitent spark from failing stator, or an air leak somewhere.

not to sound like a smart a--, but are you positive that the piston isn't in backwardes,

Piston was in the correct way. TGCheeseman and I worked on it yesterday and finaly figures out it was a blown crank seal. hopefully replacing them will let it fire up!

Crack seal replaced, fired right up. just need to tune the carb now. any hints? Went from a Lakes ported cylinder and technigag pipe to an Athena Cylinder and 90cc pipe.

Thanks!

I think I have some, ill let you know tonight. What was the process again for doing the plug chops?

Let your bike warm up and then send him down a straight away have him run full throttle leave the thumb throttle fully pressed and pull tether cord till fully stops then check your plug. Should be about the same color as cinnamon. Good luck Eric.

The only way I can get it to start is to use a new plug and take the airfilter off. Once its get running I can keepit running and get the filter on. As long as you keep the revs up it runs a little rough. once give it 1/2 throttle on it runs like a mean machine. Air screw is about 1 and half turns out. I need to check the main jet. I think toby said that it had a 100 in it. Where whould my needle clip be? how can I get it to run at low rpm?

Lots of questions.

Thanks for everyones help!

I replace the 100 main jet with a 112. (It ran fine with the 100 and the lakes ported cylinder and technigas pipe). I finally go it running again, but is does not seam to pull as hard on teh top end. I also sprayed wd 40 around thec cylinder, intake, and both crank seals as it was running and the rpm's never increased. I have attached a couple of plug picture to this. anyones thoughts would be helpfull. I am loosing my mind guys!

Make sure you clip is on the second notch from the top Eric. You should be at a cinnamon color when in tune. Let me know if you don't get it or call me.
