I live in Denver CO 5,280 feet above sea level
We ride @ 5,000 to 9,000 feet above seal level
I know to jet down (leaner) for altitude & I know I won’t be able to have the perfect jetting for the different places I ride but I would like something close

99 EX 400
I removed the stock baffles and spark arrester from the stock pipe
K&N filter with outerwears and no Air box Lid
I bought the bike used and I don’t think it has any other engine mods

I pulled my main & pilot jet out last night to see what was in it
I had:
140 main
38 pilot

The 400 runs good, but had a slight bog @ 1/8 throttle and based on the spark plug looked a little rich

I plan to use a 42 pilot and a 142 main

Dose this seem right?

Thanks

If your running rich you want to go with a smaller jet going bigger will make it worse.

Yes, I know but I think it is to lean now with only a 140
The bike had idled for about 15 mins befor I pulled the plug so I don't think it is very accurate

I'd leave the 38 pilot in place. 42 will bay waaay too rich at that elevation. Play with the fuel screw to fine tune that hesitation out. Try screwing it in 1/2 turn and see what ya get.

That is why I said that you said its running rish and you plan on going up in main jet size.

if its lean then try going up get it to run right at elevation and then try looking into a dial-a jet
