I finally went ahead and ordered a Cannon Rebel XSI 12mp DSLR from cameta.com. I paid $650 for the camera, lense, and all the other basic accessories it came with. The only thing I had to go out and get was, an 8g memory card and a small camera bag to keep everything together. This camera is like night and day compared to anything I ever used. I didn't get to play around with it to much yet, but the quality of the pictures are incredible, compared to what im used to using. The more I use it, the more I like it.

Heres a the first few pictures I toke, just getting the feel of it.

As im looking through my pictures, I didn't take to many good shots! I need a little bit of practice... Heres another of the dog.

But to anyone who really wants to upgrade from a point and shoot camera, and to keep the budget somewhat low, I would definitly reccomend this camera!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! It's addicting and very fun. Keep practicing and read as much as you can stand to do. With time and experience the ability to work the equipment will come and you'll see improvement. And make sure to post up some pics once in a while. Have fun!

Thanks! It definitly is alot of fun using this camera... I do gotta spend some time getting used to it. Everyone I have let to try this camera out, is now out to buy a DSLR :p .

BTW, can someone clear up the difference between a raw photo and a regular photo? Im guessing a raw is just a higher quality image

RAW is just that raw data. It will capture everything that the sensor is capable of capturing according to your settings. It doesnt use any camera presets, only your exposure settings.

Now that you've had the camera for a while how do you like it? Im thinking about joining the DSLR ranks and ditching my $80 POS. Ive been looking at the canon XSi and the XS.
