The engine I have just had rebuilt runs terrible. All new internals but has a vibration and just seems to crap out when you try to ride it? Where is a good place to start troubleshooting??I have tried different reeds, carb, cdi, jetting, etc and no change.

If you had it rebuilt by a shop or engine builder, I'd take it back to him.

I did and he just kinda scratched his head.He said it was a carb or reed issue. I changed the carb abd reeds but still has the same symptoms. I think it is enternal.

need to have the engine pressure tested, should tell you if its got a leak internally, crankshaft seals, base gasket ect., also sounds like the counterbalance may not be timed correctly, would check that for sure.

counterbalencer might be off.

Thanks for the info guys!! If the counterbalancer is off would that cause it to run rough as well as have vibration?

Check that counterbalancer for sure. You dont want to run it with the cb out of sync. Many yrs ago, before I knew any better, a builder didnt put mine in correctly. I think it was just 3 teeth off. It shook so bad when you revved it at idle, the machine would actually squat. Ended up cracking motor mounts and I ended up with a crack in my cylinder sleeve.

as mentioned. address the vibration issue and then focuss on getting it tweeked out. ;)

If the CB is out enough it will prevent the engine from revving out like it should as piston acceleration fights with the weight of the CB. The vibration if it wasn't there before definitely begs checking the alignment dots on the CB. Your builder should have thought of this and checked if he knows there a vibration issue.

I took the bike to a different builder today and he is going to check the counterbalancer and then we will go from there. Thanks again for all the info guys!!
