Some of you guys might remember me. I had a 88 250r that I redid in 02. Spent a ton of money on it. Then got my license, started a business, got busy with life and sold it in 2005.

I am really thinking of getting another quad. I've been browsing craigslist and I am shock about how cheap stuff is selling for due to the economy. I am looking to buy a used 450. I have no intentions of dropping big $ into it! I been down that road and will NOT do that again. Whats my best bet out of the suzuki, honda and yamaha? I do plan on going to the mx track and maybe racing a local XC race or two? What close to stock machine would be best?

mostly MX with a little XC best bet would be Suzuki. then Yamaha.

Was 06 the first year for the ltr450? Is there a big change between then and now? Or is it just bold new graphics?

Will all 3 makes be in the same price range on the used markets? It seems like in my area I could pick up a real clean stock 2005 honda for 3k and have several to choose from. Was 05 a decent year for the trx450r? I am just looking to have some fun. I don't need the best of the best. Where if I cant save 1500 bucks and buy a cheaper quad thats more weekend riding trips I can go on.

What kind of updates are we talking about?

They supposedly strengthened the lower shock linkage mount (I cant see much in what they did)

There was some other stuff but nothing to major that I remember.

The biggest downfall to the LTR is the gears in the tranny, and ATP makes a gear set if needed down the road.

I needed a quad Cody could do mx on for practice and no other one out there for the price really measured up. Cherry bomb, removed pea shooter and let it eat:p

We have a shoot to do with it thursday (which will break it in) then he can ride the wheels off it

Not sure what they go for in your area, but I had all I could do to sell my near stock 05 450R with a brand spanking fresh motor for $2500.

05 trx 450 r suppusably the best year for the quad i guess it had a stronger gear case thats why joe byrd still runs an 05 but i would go with the ltr better bike and its 50 inches stock so its great for the trip to the mx track

I'd say the best all around bike is the standard YFZ. (provided the KTM is outta the question)

I ride a Honda, and have quite a bit of $ tied up in it. Next bike will be a Honda. But I don't crossover. I'm an XC guy.
