I'm looking for some input on the AV100LL aviation fuel. Is it a good fuel to run? If not, what race gas do you recommend as far as power gains? Also, if you know a rough estimate of the cost of these race fuels, please include it.

Thanks.

I am NOT an expert on fuel.
As far as aviation fuel goes, I would stay away. To my limited knowlage, I believe AV fuel is more heavily oxygenated in order to burn properly in airplanes operating at obviously higher elevations. This could give you lean condition that you would have to jet way rich to compensate. Now you're pumping in a ton of feul that need'nt be used, possibly washing down the cylider walls and accelerating ring wear. Additionally, it would seem to me that you would also need to spend more time adjusting your accelerator pump squirt duration to ensure no off idle bog.

I stick to C12, pay about $9/gal.

As far as power gains go, fuel wont be a big factor. I wouldnt run race gas unless you have a high compression motor that requires it. I would never run av gas, ever. Premium works fine;)

Highly oxygenated gas will almost always make for more power. Too highly oxygenated can cause problems.

I personally run Klotz Oxyas. Nice mixture of oxygen/octane.

I really appreciate the answers guys. I do have a higher compression engine...12.5:1...so I believe it would be best to run a higher octane fuel.

C12 is an oxygenated fuel also correct? Would I need to rejet for this added oxygen (air) or should I be fine?

Also, is there a place to order C12 online, or is it even possible to order fuel?

most race fuels are oxygenated to an extent, but not as much as AV fuel. yes, you should work on your jetting a little as you should with ANY fuel change.

You probably wont be able to find anyone who can ship fuel to a private residence. I get mine at a local gasoline wholesaler. Have to drive about 45mins. to get it, but I dont use but 20gals. a year. :ermm: Due to a lack of time to ride.

My dad being a crop duster and having thousands of gallons of 100LL on hand, I have done some digging on this.

It supposibly burns to dry in a four stroke. I used to run it in two strokes. With the pre mix the dry burning doesnt affect them so much.

I run purple power 114, I get it for $6/gallon.

been using avgas for 6-7 years but in my 2 strokes, about 3.80/gal a month or so ago. i need a 'test' 4 stroke to see it's compatability

I'm not sure if too many people have tried this out yet but E-85 would make a great cheap race fuel if you're running high compression. I don't know if there are any kits to make your carb resistant to ethanol though.

i run vp c 12 in my 14:1 300ex ad t runs great in the book it says its not oxygenated and i get it at $65 for 5 gallons so $13/1 gallon
