LTZ400 trans?

Hey guys im new here and im looking to buy an ltz but the one i am looking at has a griding sound as soon as you put it gear you can still ride it and it does it at all rpms and all gears the owner said it was from a hill climb he was going up and it started to roll backwards and then it started anyone have any ideas? thanks
